hey guys

I bought a 250gb xbox slim back in December. The thing is brutally loud when a disc is in the tray. I went to Wal-mart this week and swapped it out for a new one. The new one does the same thing. I recorded a quick video of the sound, I'm not sure how well it comes out but this can't possibly be the "normal" expected sound.

I've tried standing it vertically and horizontally and tried numerous games. All sound identical. I literally have to turn up the volume on my reciever to drown out the incessent buzzing. It's horrible.

is this how it is supposed to be?

You should install the game on your hard drive Is makes it run quieter and reduces the wear and tear on your disc drive.

How to install the game on your hard drive.

1.Insert the game disc into the disc drive.
Note After you insert the disc, the default option is to automatically start the game. If the game starts, exit the game, and return to the Xbox Dashboard.

2.From the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox.

3.Select the game you want to install.

4.Press Y on your controller.

5.Select Install to Hard Drive.

A progress indicator appears while your game is being installed on your hard drive.
Notes

Multidisc game Install each disc to your hard drive separately .

How to Play a downloaded game
1.Go to My Xbox, select Games, and then select Game Library.

2.Select the game you want to play.
Play a game from your hard drive

You should definitely install games to your hard drive. I've got some drives that make the loud noise but I've got a couple quiet ones as well. Its more uncommon to have a quiet drive than a loud one when it comes to the 360.

have you tried moving it to another surface? maybe whatever you have it on makes the problem more pronounced.

I would take that one back too

Yeah, it just seems ridiculous that I actually need to install to the HD. I would do it anyway but that vibration can't be good in the long run.

hahaha yeah. I guess I had assumed the new ones would be better. I really thought my PS3 was loud before, it's not even close to how loud the disc drive is on the ps3.

I'm on the fence if I should bring it back again or not. I'm not clear if this is normal, sounds like it is.

this. I used to have my old 360 on my dresser next the wife's betta fish tank thing. The damn metal lid on the fish tank would make this loud vibrating noise....for days i thought the 360 was just dying until i realized it was the surrounding setup it was on

I haven't used the new slim 360's but sounds about as loud as my jasper Warefare 2 edition. I would say install the game and ALL games on your hard drive. I never play any games off the disc anymore. It seems like it takes the life out of the drive by having games ran off it. Every last bit of life helps from getting those red rings laugh out loud
