Ok guys, we are a few steps closer to getting our home! We had our home inspection and termite inspections today and the house passed with flying colors--only two small problems for the seller to fix and a few minor things recommended to make the house better. We did our own inspection as well and invited my parents and DH's parents to come take a look. The home is a 1950's concrete block house that's been completely renovated (new windows, doors, paint, A/C system, hot water heater, new wood floors, new kitchen, bathroom, etc) and has a big yard (very important to us.)

CAUTION! RANT AHEAD! My parents liked the house and thought it was a nice deal. His parents looked around unimpressed and bored and left after 15 mins. 2 minutes later, they call DH and tell him that they're going to give him THEIR opinion since he didn't ask them.

-They said the neighborhood is a "concern." WTH!? The house is in the city and close to everything. Schools, shopping, hospital, library, you name it. I live in the next city and I'm in this area all the time. I know what parts to avoid. The house's neighborhood and the surrounding ones are nicely kept and around the same time period. We have friends close to this street and they love it. I pointed out that the place we live in now has a crappy neighborhood, but apparently that's OK because we're 1 block away from DH parents. BTW, we rent a house from them.

-Then they said the price was too much and complained that the renovations weren't worth much. The house price is comparable to similar homes selling (and have sold for) in the area and we have calculated the payment per month and it's maybe $50-$100 more than we pay for our home now and very reasonable for us.

-They also didn't like that the main bathroom was down the hall and not in the master bedroom. They said it was "a bad idea" and that we'd have lots of problems with it if we every have kids and have to share with them. Again WTH?!

For the record, DH and I are in our late 20s, we both have good, steady jobs, and pay all our bills on time and have no debt. But the problem is that DH's parents are control freaks. (They're in their 40s-50s and have very good jobs.)
He's an only child and they've tried to control everything he does since birth. I told DH that I think they're mad because (1.) they didn't get to choose a house for him, (2.) didn't have anything to do with the house finding process, (3.) We're moving one city away and now we won't be five seconds from their house. They don't try crap with me because I've made it very clear that I'm a grown, married woman that can make my own choices. But they still try to push their weight around with DH (although they have gotten WAY better.)

Sigh, for listening guys! I usually don't let their opinion get to me, but they got me really mad when my mom called me and said the in-laws called her trying to convince them to tell us we're making a mistake and we should let them "help" us blah blah. Bottom line, we're going to make our own decisions whether they like it or not, but they just get really irritating sometimes.

Ok, on my grocery list: Fresh Express, Bird's Eye, Cheeze-its, and Cesar's dog food for my spoiled little dogs.

Hey guys, I don't frequent the P chat thread much.. have popped in a time or two

I actually don't shop at publix too often anymore.. have seriously slacked up on shopping in general due to real life busy stuff.. But, I am traveling to the beach this weekend and discovered there is a Publix really close by (shouldn't be surprised since they seem to be much more available in Florida).

I know I don't get doubles in FL, but was super excited to see in the P wiki that the stores near there accept multiple types of competitor coupons.. Here, I only get to use Kroger and they rarely have any.. The store near our vacation location says they take "Sweetbay, Winn Dixie,Target,Whole Foods,Save a lot, Bravo ".. I am very familiar with target coupons, but have no idea about any of those other stores.. Where does one find coupons for those? And are there any x/xx coupons out?

I tried the search function here on SD last night and came up empty with most of those stores. Sorry to pop into the middle of your chat, but I didn't want to clog the deal thread

If you HAD FL as a competitor, but don't any longer, how about editing wiki 4 to reflect that update?

ETA: What's on your list for next/this week? I need to start putting my list together... Bagels (buy 2 bags, see if they let me use one $1/1 Bakery Q), smuckers toppings, but now I have no Publix ice cream , MG Cheerios, swing-a-way can opener (present for the girl that borrows mine at work almost every.single.day),

Holy carp y'all. I just walked out to my car to check the lifesavers blinkie for a minute and discovered my wallet sitting on top of my car. From when I got gas on the way home!


Anyways, I was gonna say I had issues with that blinkie beeping tonight too. Some lifesavers are coded 22000 and others are coded 19000...hence it beeping on some and not others. The q is coded 22000.

Yum, butter rum. I couldn't even begin to tell you the last time I had one of these...it's probably been 10 years or more, but they are every bit as delicious as I remember. So glad some things don't change!

SA, don't over think it. They will be happy with ANY gift that someone gives them... If P has mints, buy the mints... if not, buy something else.

You are so sweet to think of all the folks that work in the assisted living facility.

What else did I get tonight? Oh, Speedstick (happened upon the last seven peelies!). Also found three more Softsoap peelies, so I got the $1.29 ones to round out a second giftcard. Bakery bread (white mountain and whole wheat white mountain). Cantaloupe, honeydew, bananas. Two free Marie Callendar meals (DH brought home two free Q's from work...their company makes chicken for conagra and they sent some Q's last week but they expire tomorrow...told DH I need the HOOK UP ). Pillsbury frozen biscuits.
I think that's it. Unless I find more Speedstick Q's, I think I'm about done with this ad already. I have one more bakery q and one more produce q to use Friday, so that's about it for me.

Is there a deal on the Pillsbury frozen biscuits? I have a couple of $1/1 Running Out, Run In PQ's that are about to expire, but not sure if that makes it much of a deal by itself. We always seem to be in need of biscuits, rolls, etc. around here, so I may have to bite the bullet and get some.

Speed Stick is definitely on my list, to use up my last GC PQ's. I got so many free Lady Speed Sticks for DW and for giveaway with those Kotex/Speed Stick PQ's a while back, that I'm glad to finally be able to get some Non-Lady Speed Sticks for me!

Otherwise, Huggies baby wipes... I look forward to the day we don't have to buy those, and diapers, anymore (soon!) but at $6, -$1.50 PQ from the Hello Baby booklet that expires today, -$1.50 MQ, that's about as good as it gets for those. I plan to use the GC's I got from Softsoap/Colgate/Speed Stick to pay for 'em!

OH my gosh...how scary is that!? Well at least you know that's something that will never happen again! I'm very careful when I get gas. The only thing that comes out of the car with me is a gas card and my keys, and I lock the car as soon as I get out.

I'm putting together gift bags for the CNAs, nurses, maintenance, and other attendants at the assisted living facility where my mom lives. I can now add Lifesavers to the bags, and was wondering what would be the best flavor. Would mints be the best for the general public? Or maybe two bags each? One fruity and one mint since I'm sure most have either children or grandchildren? The bags are getting really big thanks to all the Publix and Target goodies! Speedstick will be added this week too!
