Thread Details

The PUBLIX thread is IMHO the best grocery store thread around heart
Here's a little chat area for us all to share info, recipes, rant's, raves and whatever else we want without clogging up the regular weekly deals thread for PUBLIX. If we want to share super deals we find in other stores or whatnot that's ok too heart

I think we all are such a great family that it's a good to have our own special place Grouphug

You can post basically anything you like in here but let's keep deals info in the actual PUBLIX thread. All are welcome and basically no major rules except be kind and courteous of other's and treat each other with respect. Other than that let's all have some fun! Also you don't have to shop at PUBLIX to share in the chat or whatnot... we like everyone.

Different topic...
Why aren't there any Kraft cheese coupons in the paper inserts anymore? Two years ago there was the great $5/5 Kraft foods Q in the parade. I dumpster dived for a LOT of them. Now, they've dried up and shrivelled on the vine (ie, I haven't seen a normal cheese insert Q in a LONG time...particularly Kraft singles).
I don't know but I wish they would bring them back myself. I stocked up when they released the Publix q a month ago and now have 2 bricks left in my freezer. My DD loves the Monterray Jack/Colby combo.

Things you won't buy again to eat, even though you've bought one in the past and why:
For me:
Belvita ==> tummy troubles afterward
Kellogg's Cinnamon Almond Raisin Bran ==> not as good as regular Raisin Bran, and the cinnamon tastes too much like Cinnamon Toast Crunch bleh!
Phillips Crab Cakes ==> I'd rather have the real Phillips in Baltimore. These don't do it for me.
Hot Pocket Snackers Sick
Kraft Fresh Taste ==> ehh, the one I tried (twice) I wouldn't buy again.
My SILs is Hevula Dip stuff... she won't buy it even with a MM.
I agree with your list, but the Belvita actually is pretty good; I like it.
The Kraft Taste is stupid--I just got them for the cheese Big Grin

The Hot Pocket snackers are bleh, but I swear Totino's pizza stuffers are so nasty! Even DH asked me not to buy them again.

Publix salsa => is always bad when I buy it Frown I never seem to get a good batch.
Pillsbury Egg Scrambles => Eww, hard yucky eggs with a few chunks of veggies thrown in. I can make my own delicious egg scamble in 2-3 minutes thanks!

Sambazon: the blueberry blend was OK, but we still have 2 out of three bottles in the fridge. The others were just flat out nasty to us, and got thrown out. Good thing they were free.

Coles garlic bread: too salty/almost bitter to me. I much prefer the New York brand, or Pepperidge Farm as a second choice.

Milkbites: OK, but certainly won't pay for them...might pick up if they are free again and I need a filler, but otherwise, I'll pass.

Fresh Take: see Milkbites laugh out loud

Philly Cooking Creme: I don't like cream cheese anyways, and I had a hard time using up the two I bought.

Cascadian granola bars: none of their flavors really appeal to me, and the texture of the kids' ones was somewhat offputting. Kind of a cross between a granola bar and a Milkbites...it was like it had too much filler and not enough granola.

Regular milk: Smart Balance has ruined me. LMAO

Reps are back...for now. Stick Out Tongue I owe loads of gratitude to everyone that got me where I am! Read the *NEW* CVS FAQ and post your questions there. Let's keep the deal threads deal-related, please.
Would it kill you to read the wiki? Or to read the thread? All the experts got to where they are by reading...you can too.

My husband informed me last night at the store to stop "buying" them he doesn't really like them. I reminded him I didn't "buy" them but thanked him for telling me after the 10th time I made them. LMAO

The chocolate was the only flavor anyone here drank and the rest were tossed too.

I love cream cheese but not thick heavy creamy sauces. I ended up using mine in baked ziti in place of ricotta. Worked out well. I didn't dump the whole tub in just a few tablespoon to taste. I wouldn't waste my money on this. No

I bought smart balance milk initially because it's long shelf life. Love that it expires 4-6 weeks AFTER you buy it.

Yeah but once it's opened, make sure it's gone in a week.

I accidentally gave myself food poisoning that way.

Expire date is when it's sealed, not after it's opened.

Philadelphia Chocolate cream cheese - couldn't figure out how to eat it (don't know how to make cheesecake Smilie )
Aunt Jemima breakfast scrambles - nasty, fake tasting.

I haven't tried it yet, but my SIL just runs a graham cracker thru the tub and she likes it.

ETA: My go to cheesecake recipe is in the wiki of the BS thread (White Chocolate Cheesecake). It's easy and always delicious.

It is 10:30 and way past my bedtime. I usually get up at 4:30each morning so staying awake at this hour is killing me.

I am in the process of making cakes for my son's baseball/communion party this Saturday. Saturday is going to be the day from hell. We have a game at 8am and a game at 10am. Then we have to be at church, dressed in suits, ties, dresses and heels for my son's First Holy Communion at 2pm. Immediately following that, we are having a party for 150 people for the baseball team (end of the season), family, neighbors, etc. The kids will swim and we will grill and drink all night.

I wanted a cool cake for DS that was half baseball and half Holy Communion. Let me tell you the combination of the two is a tough concept to mesh. Then you throw in the fact I can't cook to save my life and things are getting uglier. I tried to see what the Publix Bakery could do and well . . . let's just say if it wasn't in the book, they didn't have any ideas. They had a graduation cupcake combo idea that I somewhat stole and am going to try and make work. I am baking the cakes now. They are taking FOREVER to cook. It doesn't help that I only have 1 mold and I need 4 halves to make 1 baseball. I need to get the cakes in the freezer for a few days so they will be easy to work with Friday night. I am trying to do a combo cake with some MLB wrappers but we will have to see how it comes out.

The funny part is how do you incorporate "First Communion" into a baseball cake? I told DH that I was going to go buy a plastic cross and stick it in the top of the darn baseball. He looked at me like I was crazy, but I have to tell you that I am seriously considering it. I will post a picture of the cake when I am finally done.

snip......
Maybe a cross cupcake cake with the cupcake tops decorated like baseballs?? It really is a tough concept to meshlaugh out loud We just went through something similar ourselves - First Holy Communion celebration joined with a "welcome baby" celebration for about 70 people. We ended up with two cakes - the cross cake from Publix and a huge cookie cake. The party 10 days before my due date sounded like a good idea until about 2 days before the party - that's when the back aches started and I was 80% out of commission. I pretty much sat inside in my soft sofa and let people come to me - Godfather style Smilie It turned out beautiful though. The things we do for our kids, I tell you!!!

BTW, we asked them to use custard as the filling for the Publix cake and it was DELICIOUS! Have fun on the big day!!

The way I see it
every life is a pile of good things and bad things.
The good things don't always soften the bad things
but vice versa
the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things
and make them unimportant

hug If you follow only one rule, let it be this one. Be yourself. The really strong relationships are based on what people really are, not on what they pretend to be. heart
