Thread Details

The PUBLIX thread is IMHO the best grocery store thread around heart
Here's a little chat area for us all to share info, recipes, rant's, raves and whatever else we want without clogging up the regular weekly deals thread for PUBLIX. If we want to share super deals we find in other stores or whatnot that's ok too heart

I think we all are such a great family that it's a good to have our own special place Grouphug

You can post basically anything you like in here but let's keep deals info in the actual PUBLIX thread. All are welcome and basically no major rules except be kind and courteous of other's and treat each other with respect. Other than that let's all have some fun! Also you don't have to shop at PUBLIX to share in the chat or whatnot... we like everyone.

Last year I remember a crazy amount of bacon, cream cheese and turkeys for free...well, at least we have the memories. And thankfully due to the TQ I managed to stock up on cream cheese at least a few months ago, sigh.
There was that wonderful $10 off a turkey MQ wyb 12 items from a long list of products. But that was when you could still use coupons on the qualifying products, before Publix started interpreting its coupon policy to say the $10 off coupon attached to all 13 items. Meh. Now all I have to use on my turkey this year is a measly $1 off Butterball.

Anyone know what a good Publix price is on lean ground beef? Reg price here is $4.99/lb, and I don't recall the sale price being lower than $4.29/lb.

I just ordered some from Zaycon for $3.29/lb, since I was so pleased with their chicken. I asked a friend if she wanted to order some as well, but she said that this price isn't much better than Publix's routine prices. Huh? Huh Am I missing something, or is she confusing lower-quality (and cheaper) ground chuck with lean ground beef?

FWIW, I just found this year's version of that coupon here [servicefood.com] (on page 2):

Save $5.00 off Turkey when you buy 10 participating Kraft Foods Items:

• KRAFT Natural Shredded and Block Cheese (7-8 oz.)
• KRAFT Singles (12 oz.)
• VELVEETA® (32 oz.)
• KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese (8 oz.)
• KRAFT Mayo or MIRACLE WHIP Dressing (22-30 oz.)
• KRAFT Dressing (14-16 oz.)
• PLANTERS Dry Roasted Peanuts (16 oz.)
• YUBAN Coffee (31 oz.)
• PLANTERS Mixed Nuts and Cashews (8-10.3 oz)
• MAXWELL HOUSE Coffee (28-30.6 oz.)
• GEVALIA Coffee (12 oz. bag)
• OSCAR MAYER Bacon (12-16 oz.)
• CLAUSSEN Pickles (20-32 oz.)

The ad is from a store in Minnesota, so fat chance getting a hard copy. Depends how you feel about using coupons printed from an online store circular then. But if Publix won't let you combine it with coupons on the qualifying products, there's not much point anyway.

I honestly can't remember the last time I bought any meats at Publix, but I remember Publix always being way up there in price for lean ground beef. I think $3.29 is fantastic for lean- I wouldn't think twice about paying that.

I bought some of the cheapo stuff at Target earlier this week because it was all short-dated and someone put the $3 coupons on it by mistake Big Grin I just have to plan different recipes so I can drain the fat

The way I see it
every life is a pile of good things and bad things.
The good things don’t always soften the bad things
but vice versa
the bad things don’t necessarily spoil the good things
and make them unimportant

Thanks! That's kinda what I thought. I rarely splurge on the "good stuff" because 5 bucks a pound just seems crazy expensive. I buy el cheapo too, and have kind of an elaborate fat-removal system. In fact, the only time I buy lean or sirloin is if I know my man will be doing the cooking, as I know he will not take the time to do the whole drainage process. laugh out loud

Looking forward to not having to worry about all that fat. bounce

I was hoping that deal popped up again. I stalked the Festival Foods site [festivalfoods.net] this year where that awesome q came from combined with Publix sales. This year they have a MQ and it is sooooo blurry I don't think I would try to use it. This year it's Save $5 on a turkey when you buy 10 items:

Kraft Natural Shredded or Block Cheese
Kraft Singles
Velveeta
Kraft grated Parm
Kraft Mayo or Miracle Whip
Kraft Dressing (14-16 oz)
Planters Dry Roasted Peanuts, Mixed Nuts, Cashews
Gevalia Coffee
Oscar Mayer Bacon'
Claussen Pickles

Valid until 11/21

Zaycon is a high quality product. Comes straight from the farm and has no hormones or antibiotics. Not saying Publix does, but it's a higher quality product than most stores. Ground round I bought was $3.99. Not lean like you are getting. I would of done Zaycon but I will never go through that much ground beef quick enough and my freezer is full of their chicken. We eat little ground beef and a whole lotta chicken.

You q is a better quality than I posted. Last year I wrote to Publix about the coupon from Festival Foods (another Minnesota grocer) they said if the q was available as PDF to those customers and had a bar code with remit address they would accept it. I was able to use the printed version of last years coupons with no problems.

Congratulations!!! woot

Now I'll never get to try a deep fried Twinkie. Sadwalk

No
It really is sad that so many will be out of work. I won't get into the politics of it all. Just a shame it's the end of an American icon.

I wonder if I stock up on Twinkies how much they will go for on Ebay in a few years. Scratchchin We all know they will last that long.

ETA: one quick look at Ebay and I think it's a sound investment. Are these people out of their minds? 25 bids on 5 boxes of Twinkies - US $102.50 OMG 22 hours left to go!
I was going to say... a few years?? Try NOW!! laugh out loud

I don't know if anyone has mentioned, but all three households I did Pink rebates for got their cookware today! woohoo!

That is good to have confirmation that it's ok. Then it becomes the coupon policy (or the interpretation thereof) that's the real problem. Then again, there's nothing in the publicly posted coupon policy that says you can't use coupons on the qualifying items if you consider the $5 coupon as attaching to the turkey. I generally opt for willful ignorance unless told otherwise.

Of the listed items, only the Singles, Planters and bacon appear to be on sale - so this coupon would essentially get you just another $.50 off each. The only qualifying item I planned to get was bacon, but I don't know if I need ten!

It's soooo crazy, isn't it? Maybe they are people living overseas who can't get to the store to buy before they go out of business? I couldn't believe the prices on ebay.

I was late in mailing, but I'm in the system! woot Is it a good one?

It is a YMMV but my store is strict to wording, so only this q and turkey. Not a deal to me unless I needed these items in q. No

Also Kraft block cheese is on sale $3.99. Big let down this year. I think this is going to be our norm. Sadwalk I spent so much more this year on Tday.

My shipped on the 16th! Merry early Christmas to me Whee

Oh, regarding your sig about American Girl dolls. AG does have promo codes (I think they did for Cyber Monday last year), but then I think they ditch free shipping, so it basically always end up being the same. Are you looking for a certain doll? eBay might be your best bet.

My AG dolls are one of my few prized possessions. I've had mine over 20 years now. Embarrassment

Yes! A medium sized colander, small sautee pan, flexible cutting board (but not flimsy), tongs, and egg-turner.

THank you, I'm keeping an eye out. I told my daughter they are really expensive, so I don't know if we will be able to get one right now, we might have to save up for it. After thinking about this for a few days, she informed me "Mommy, I know the AG dolls are really expensive, so I'll ask Santa for it so you don't have to buy it"

Dollar General (who woulda thought) has a good deal on the Libby's Veggies thru Wed. They are on sale for 45¢ a can. Combine with the $1/4 to be 20¢ a can.
They also have a in store promo for Pedigree Dog food, BOGO. Don't know if they will take Qs on the free one or not, but there is a $1/1 Pedigree Dry Food For Dogs, any 3.5 lb or larger - 09-30-12 RP.

At least she was thinking about you!

What about the Our Generation doll they sell at Target? They're 18" dolls and come with books, just like AG. Except they're only $30ish.
