Thread Details

The PUBLIX thread is IMHO the best grocery store thread around heart
Here's a little chat area for us all to share info, recipes, rant's, raves and whatever else we want without clogging up the regular weekly deals thread for PUBLIX. If we want to share super deals we find in other stores or whatnot that's ok too heart

I think we all are such a great family that it's a good to have our own special place Grouphug

You can post basically anything you like in here but let's keep deals info in the actual PUBLIX thread. All are welcome and basically no major rules except be kind and courteous of other's and treat each other with respect. Other than that let's all have some fun! Also you don't have to shop at PUBLIX to share in the chat or whatnot... we like everyone.

Sorry, out of town this weekend and do not have update if there is a Publix Q. wave
Don't worry you're not missing anything. From my Tampa Tribune just an ad with a picture of some rolls, brownies, mustard etc. sitting on a table, no coupon.

I'm really surprised the haven't sent any coupons. I'm hoping closer to Christmas they give us a little coupon gift. Something, anything! Smilie

I personally wouldn't try this. I searched thru my Cook's Illus. books and found this one that is really simple and (hopefully) you have some pistachios. I love the Cook's recipes. Have used about 500 different ones since retiring and could count on one hand the ones that were not 'keepers'.

Here's an alternative that is much simpler and I think will yield better results:

Wintermint Bark

1 lb. white chocolate, chopped into rough chunks (I don't see why you can't substitute the white chocolate chips).

l cup shelled unsalted pistachios

1/4 cup crushed peppermint candies

1. Make foil sling for 8 inch square baking pan. (Fold two long sheets of aluminum foil so that each measures 8 inches wide. Lay the folded sheets in the pan perpendicular to each other with the extra foil handing over the edges of the pan. Gently push the foil into the corners and up the sides of the pan with your fingers, smoothing the foil flush to the pan.) I spray this also with Pam.

2. Heat chocolate in heatproof bowl set over saucepan one-quarter filled with barely simmering water, stirring occasionally until melted. Add pistachios and stir until well coated with melted chocolate. Using rubber spatula, scrape chocolate-pistacio mixture into prepared pan and smooth top. Evenly sprinkle (crushed) peppermint candies on top of chocolate-pistachio mixture and refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour.

3. Using foil overhand, lift bark out of pan. Gently peel away foil and discard. Using chef's knife, cut bark into rough chunks before serving.

Follow tn_native's advise for crushing the peppermint.

Why This recipe works:

"We typically stay away from preparing candy at home--outside of the occasional batch of simple fudge or decadent chocolate truffles. The reason for this is that most candy recipes that we are familiar with are just too fussy (all call for the use of a sugar syrup and a candy thermometer) and time-consuming...We found that the key to creating a great candy is to balance the sweet elements with salty elements . Textured contrast and a good deal of crunch are important too...this bark not only tastes the part, but also the red and white crushed candy and the green pistachios celebrate the festive colors of the season." From Cooks Illustrated
drool Yum thanks!

I did, but I traded for coupons and a RC, you will have to go to KimBobs to find it now Wink

Bet you would have never guessed this, but as a kid I spent a lot of time in the principals office
For the record, I do not have nor have I ever owned a floor to ceiling pole....not that there's anything wrong with that Wink. Being in Tampa, there is certainly no "pole" shortage so might have to get MsA to give us some lessons. We can call her "Magic" MsA from now on hehe

Ok now off to find who needed Tena info.... <3 u guys!!

If you missed the Libby's veggies before Thanksgiving, they are 2/$1 this week at Dollar General. Using $1/4 Libby's Vegetables, any 14 oz or larger - 11-11-12 RP, means they are a quarter a can.

Reminder if you buy lots, have them scan 4 cans, then a coupon, 4 cans, then a coupon or they don't go thru properly.

Dollar General sold out in seconds the last time they put this on sale, but thankfully WalMart did not, I PM there and got my veggies! Big Grin

I have a dollar general on almost every corner... seriously, there are 10+ within 20 miles of my house. Not all of them sold out last time, but may have been out once I got there Angel Not

Believe it or not, but I find more peelies at DG than I do at Publix. Makes me consider walking the store, picking up additional items to buy when the $5 off $25 are out on Saturdays.

I don't even know where a DG is around here. I only ever see them in the not so nice neighborhoods so I don't usually go to them.

Anyone using this Ibotta [ibotta.com] app on their Iphone/Ipad? Basically you earn money on things you buy. Just uploaded Poptarts and Capri Sun I bought this week and earned $2.75 and Cheezits from last week for another $1.25. Not saying I can run out and buy a Mercedes with it, but I'll take a drip here and there on items I already bought. Wink

BTW ... CVS'ers if you are getting the Clear Men Scalp Therapy Shamp next week its on there too! You will earn $1.75 back for it.

Awww, sorry. They say they maybe coming soon for droids. hug

I just found shopkick and every time I go into CVS I forget to start the dang thing. I'm sitting on my Viggle points waiting patiently for CVS to come back in stock. It's been a few weeks.

I wonder if you delete it and reinstall if that would help? Confused Last night was my first time trying it and I made $4 for receipts I had here anyway. Was pretty easy to use and they accepted my receipt pretty quick. I haven't cashed it out yet, I'll wait til it's worth it. I like that it isn't another gift card and you can add it to Paypal. nod

Can anyone think of anything really "nice" from Publix for $15 or $20 as gifts for men? (Co-workers) Publix doesn't sell Godiva chocolates. All they have is the Russell Stover (glorified Hershey's) and the Lindor and Ghiraldi are out for this occasion and I can't give a gift card. I can't bring alcohol (even unopened) into the building so that is out - Has anyone seen anything decent that perhaps I am missing? I wish they had some nice David's cookies in a box or something. I was hoping to stay at Publix so I could use my Q's but it looks like I may have to head to Whole Foods or Fresh Market.
