Thread Details

The PUBLIX thread is IMHO the best grocery store thread around heart
Here's a little chat area for us all to share info, recipes, rant's, raves and whatever else we want without clogging up the regular weekly deals thread for PUBLIX. If we want to share super deals we find in other stores or whatnot that's ok too heart

I think we all are such a great family that it's a good to have our own special place Grouphug

You can post basically anything you like in here but let's keep deals info in the actual PUBLIX thread. All are welcome and basically no major rules except be kind and courteous of other's and treat each other with respect. Other than that let's all have some fun! Also you don't have to shop at PUBLIX to share in the chat or whatnot... we like everyone.

I'm trying to get ready for the Kellogg's sale this weekend. (Going into my deleted folder and printing Kellogg's Qs from the Family Rewards emails). I figure $1/2 Kellogg's cereal is better than no Kellogg's cereal (for Crispix) at all.

ETA: If you are buying Special K, there is a TQ available for Target competitors. Also a new Grocery Advantage Buy PQ (old YAF) that starts on Saturday
-FREE Kellogg’s Special K Crackers, Popcorn Chips, Cracker Chips, or Bites 3.48 to 8 oz wyb 2 Kellogg’s Special K Cereal 11 to 19.5 oz Grocery Advantage Buy “Big Game Savings” In-Ad Publix Coupon
- $1.50/2 Kellogg’s Eggo Waffles 24 ct wyb Kellogg’s Cereal 12 oz + Grocery Advantage Buy “Big Game Savings” In-Ad Publix Coupon
So our YAF is now a GAB? Teehee I can't wait for the Special K to be on sale again. I'm on my last two boxes from last year. I love the protein plus with sliced bananas in the morning. Smilie

I cannot believe I was such a moron and didn't buy any of the coupons when they were on sale. I only have right at 1000 points so I can only get two coupons for that. What the heck was I thinking. Apparently I wasn't!
The ones we printed from that sale I think all expired. Unless your store takes expireds you wouldn't have been able to use them. I can't be sure since I used all mine. Wink

Why are people so farking inconsiderate/rude?! If someone sends you an invitation, please have the common decency to answer it! Especially when it's for a 5-year old's birthday party, being held at a facility where you have to pay based on head count. I sent out 20 invitations and 4 people have RSVPd. The RSVP deadline is tomorrow, so I'll hold out hope that 16 people are going to flood my phone/email tomorrow! (NOT)
Huge pet peeve of mine! I liked it when my son was going to a school where the Homeroom Mom put together a list of emails. I would wait until a few days before the party and send out an email reminder which prompted many more to respond. And, it appears that you did give your email as an option for the RSVP - I always find that more people are inclined to respond that way.

I'm a mean mom though. Since my kids were probably around 5 years old, I've used this as a learning opportunity - they always had to make the call to RSVP when they got an invitation. Taught some good phone manners!

I printed the Kellogg's $.50/1 IP that was emailed on Tuesday at work and I KNOW I brought them home, but what the he!l have I done with them. I was driving myself crazy. I shopped Tuesday night (last day of the sale) and put items in the second frig. I FINALLY found the coupon sheets that had fallen behind the products on the shelving unit, just to the left of the frig. I knew I wasn't crazy... I knew I had printed them AND brought them home. I'm happy to have found them.

(I don't have print preview at work, so I don't dare try and print something on the same side as what I've printed... I have print preview at home, so I normally bring home the sheets and try to find something in groups of two, or on coupon network or target.com to fill in the middle and then print one at the end.

Don't ya just hate that! I mean, I KNOW I printed them. I KNOW I just had them a second ago, where could they have gone?!

In my case, I'm usually sitting at my desk and saying, but I haven't moved - except to go to the bathroom, and I know I didn't take them in there. So, I tear my desk apart looking for them and give up. The next day, I pick up the house and the gazillion "coloring pages" my kids have scattered across the floor - and I find the coupons I've been looking for. Luckily for me, they color on the back. I know which child it is (2-year old) and we're working on the "don't touch papers on mommy's desk" part.

Was that from a RC or am I missing something?
Actually it was a raincheck from xmas. I knew the stores would be out of stock because of bad delivery schedules and that's when the magic PQ+MQ was making them free so I would buy the one or two they had left and then ask for a raincheck.

Had to use rainchecks today before they expired but was trying to dodge the sale last week so the managers wouldn't argue with me, which they seem to like to do.

Felt bad to make them take so many expired PQ but policy is policy and it's not like I used a $5/30 on top of that or anything.

Everything else is getting so expensive and freebies so rare that I had to go nuts on it.

Since I don't eat meat I didn't have anything else in the freezer, actually found and had to throw out some of the old steamfresh that was super cheap after Q last year.

Stores are getting really crazy about writing rainchecks lately too, they will check all around the store and the back and the computer and then offer to get from a nearby store before finally writing one.

If you don't see me post in the next couple of days, my french toast this morning killed me. Shelf stable Horizon singles milk (expired Dec 11...I don't keep milk in the house normally), expired eggs, Kings Hawaiian round bread (date on the tab was 4/11/12), cinnamon and sugar, but Licklips it sure was good.

ETA: I had read somewhere online that French Toast with King's Hawaiian bread was good. I haven't figured out how to get the outside crispy and the inside creamy (all creamy.. no texture difference), but it was still good. I have little to no practice making french toast.

If I got sick every time I ate expired food, I would be perpetually sick.

That does sound good, though yummy

So funny...there are so many people absolutely terrified of eating anything even one day past the due date - usually not me, but yesterday I did throw out a brick of Velveeta that had expired 4/12 because it had changed color and I felt bad feeding it to the kids. I used the one that had a 12/12 date insteadEmbarrassment

I guess I won't mention the Breakstone Sour Cream in the second frig that I bought right before Thanksgiving 2011 then, huh. As long as I don't open it, it's fine. Once I open it, I've got 2 weeks to use it in my experience.

So, what are you buying Sat/Sun that is Kellogg's? I'm buying Crispix and maybe one box of Pop-Tarts (red velvet if Publix carries it). I looked Tuesday night and didn't see the Cinnamon Jacks at my local store.

Nothing! Big Grin

On another note, when did it become "okay" to RSVP to a 5-year old's birthday party (invites sent out to her pre-K class) and say "yes, so-and-so will be coming, and we're bringing his 2 other brothers". Is this normal now?

We booked Bounce-U here you have to book based on # of kids (up to 10, 15, 20, 25). I booked a 15, but can increase to a 20. 3 families have RSVPd with additional children. 1 said, "yes, all my kids are coming". "all your kids?" How many kids do you have? You have 1 child in her pre-k class. Another asked if it was okay to bring "her", pointing to his daughter standing at my husband's feet. Just what are you supposed to say with a 2-year old looking up at you???? The third, left a VM with the 2 other brothers coming as well. At least she was stammering a bit and said she didn't know about payment, how that works, etc., and to let her know. The other 2 just seemed like, I'm bringing my other kids and you're paying for them.

Is that not rude anymore? Am I thaaaat old???

Not a darned thing, unless I notice a good coupon that makes for a good deal.

I'm not well-versed in current birthday party etiquette since I don't have kiddos, but that's very rude IMO. Parents should know these places cost money per child! Heck, even if it were just a party at your house, it's rude. You have to plan for cake/drinks/etc for each child!

Anyways. Do any of you shop at Radioshack? I have a $5/5 printable coupon that expires TOMORROW if anyone wants it. I went to use it today, but the people working were complete assholes, so I left.

Old or not, that is rude. It's either naïveté or a sense of entitlement, neither of which is acceptable. If your facility has any experience, they will have asked you to supply a list of party-goers. When families show up, the child whose name is on the list gets in because you have already paid for him/her. Anyone extra will need to pay admission. It isn't right for you to have to pay, and anyone who gets upset or offended that they have to pay for extra children to attend should be immediately arrested by the anti-rudeness police.Nono1
