Some information to make any buyers feel better about their purchase, and perhaps justify to the wife Wink The current model is the W9, and it is almost the same model, with a few tweaks - bigger hard drive, Windows 7, same proc w/ faster clockspeed, but most notably longer battery life. The W9 came out just under a year ago.

W9 Overview, Google Translate [google.com]

W9 Specs, Google Translate [google.com]

Translated W9 listing on Amazon JP [co.jp] That price is about $2300.

Translated W8 listing on Amazon JP, downgrade model [co.jp] That price is about $1400.

Global Mobile Broadband Internet –Gobi Technology (EV-DO Rev. A., HSPA) listed above as included is NOT included. It is listed as an option in the ordering process ($250) and has been reported as an option in emails from the vendor.

Please note that this model does NOT have Windows 7 x64 drivers. The Windows 7 x86 driver pack can be found Here [tpgweb2.net].

Have you considered exercising your warranty?
Actually no, I didn't think of that.Thanks. I guess am used to just fixing things myself.

Since I am running windows 7 64 bit on it do you think I will need to restore it to XP if I decide to use my warranty? Also If it's gonna cost me to ship it to them for a repair then I might as well do it myself. I have a few wifi cards laying around.

I do expect you'd have to reinstall XP. Depending upon your proclivities, maybe you want to clone the W7 drive to a newer one (SSD?), install XP on the original 160GB HDD, and then send it back with the original HDD.

I know that's not an inconsequential amount of work, and will cost some $$$, but if your inclined to do it, it would make the transition back to W7 easier after the CFW8 is returned.

Good luck.

Actually at the moment I already have a 60gb Intel SSD in my toughbook. The 160gb it came with is long gone. I used that to replace someone's bad HDD. I think I'll just replace the wifi card myself since I have spare ones laying around. I also found a video of a guy on youtube [youtube.com]assembling the CF-W8 . Thanks for your input. Repped!

I mostly followed hydro's instruction but added a few more files to get sound working.
