Some information to make any buyers feel better about their purchase, and perhaps justify to the wife Wink The current model is the W9, and it is almost the same model, with a few tweaks - bigger hard drive, Windows 7, same proc w/ faster clockspeed, but most notably longer battery life. The W9 came out just under a year ago.

W9 Overview, Google Translate [google.com]

W9 Specs, Google Translate [google.com]

Translated W9 listing on Amazon JP [co.jp] That price is about $2300.

Translated W8 listing on Amazon JP, downgrade model [co.jp] That price is about $1400.

Global Mobile Broadband Internet –Gobi Technology (EV-DO Rev. A., HSPA) listed above as included is NOT included. It is listed as an option in the ordering process ($250) and has been reported as an option in emails from the vendor.

Please note that this model does NOT have Windows 7 x64 drivers. The Windows 7 x86 driver pack can be found Here [tpgweb2.net].

This means I might not get my W8 after all. Card was finally charged two days ago, but I have yet to receive any shipping notice. I will give them one more week before disputing.
Got my shipping notification. Expected delivery: Sat. Smilie

I am not gig of computer but I had satellite AMD Turion 64* 2, dual core, 2 GHz, 3 GB ram and 32 bit operating system. Just wondering, system wise if I upgrade w8 to 4 GB ram, which would run faster. Just wondering, I am really poor in these processor mathematics.

Bluetooth tethering works impeccably on Windows 7 using my iPhone. The battery also seems like it's gonna last for 5-6 hours with the wifi card on and moderate usage. I haven't done anything too stressful, but just browsing websites and the sort and I have 2.5 hours left with 39%, which puts the calculation at about 6.5 hours of battery life. Not too bad.

Is it better to dual boot or to VMWare?
I think it may be slow to run VMware. I have a laptop that has the U7700 - 1.33Ghz with 4GB ram. It is slow already. I cannot imagine, the performance with 1.2Ghz.

At the end of the day, I think VMware will works in the W8. However, it depends on what is your expectation of the performance.

I said it before:
Clearly it's random, random (like Cheech's hair plugs from "Things Are Tough All Over" [youtube.com]).

I hope you get some luck.

My guess is that Mr.Zoz processed as many orders he could each day at the top of his orders/ email list (newest date first). If he didn't process the rest of that particular days order, they just went to the bottom of his emails and the next day he processed as many orders from the top of his emails.

Whatever they did, it was quite random and not very equitable. But this was a special deal (really intended for employees/ families/friends) and I completely understand that the ones that got it are fortunate. Their handling of the whole situation was poor (probably because they were overwhelmed), but I'm not angry. Just wasn't one of the lucky ones. Oh well. Another deal will come along.

I really have been wanting a toughbook. If anyone wants to sell one to me, let me know.

Politely emailed this afternoon my order number and information regarding my credit card being charged a week and a half ago. Shipment notice this afternoon, already at the Fedex site in NE and expected delivery tomorrow. Not the most powerful laptop for the money, but a 3 year warranty and almost indestructible build quality mean a lot.nod

It'd be nice to think that the polite email did it - but I doubt it. You lucked out and a laptop had already been paired up with a label with your address on it. Congratulations!

Vmware inside Windows? not a good idea at all. Too slow it will be almost useless. All my lapyop are dual boot to OSX and a version of Windows. Always loved OSX. If I can load that, it will be even better deal at $402!

Was looking at some of the eBay listings, thinking I might pick one up there since I got shut out.... one small problem though: there's a LOT of misleading going on, presumably out of ignorance.

And a lot of potentially burned buyers.

Anyone who buys one from a flipper, either on eBay or here, is buying a unit with no warranty. Panasonic warrantees are nontransferrable. Since it's not YOUR name on the original invoice, you're SOL should you ever need warranty service.

In my opinion that cuts the resale value significantly.

The one ebay listing said it had a full version of Office 2010 Professional included, a $179 value (though the regular retails for about $450). I looked it up, and it is a nonprofit version. The listing had one less than one day left with the auction around $400. The seller ended the listing, relisted the exact same W8 and DELETED the Office 2010 Professional from the product. How much you want to bet someone buys this W8, pays more for it, thinking they are getting a 3-year warranty AND $450 in software. He also has the Gobi Global Broadband thing listed.

Item #320666080849 is anyone wants to avoid it based on the change in listing.

I didn't get a cancellation e-mail until I poked at them.
