Some information to make any buyers feel better about their purchase, and perhaps justify to the wife Wink The current model is the W9, and it is almost the same model, with a few tweaks - bigger hard drive, Windows 7, same proc w/ faster clockspeed, but most notably longer battery life. The W9 came out just under a year ago.

W9 Overview, Google Translate [google.com]

W9 Specs, Google Translate [google.com]

Translated W9 listing on Amazon JP [co.jp] That price is about $2300.

Translated W8 listing on Amazon JP, downgrade model [co.jp] That price is about $1400.

Global Mobile Broadband Internet –Gobi Technology (EV-DO Rev. A., HSPA) listed above as included is NOT included. It is listed as an option in the ordering process ($250) and has been reported as an option in emails from the vendor.

Please note that this model does NOT have Windows 7 x64 drivers. The Windows 7 x86 driver pack can be found Here [tpgweb2.net].

why did they charge my credit card 3 days ago and no shipping info? should I dispute the charge?
You might want to wait and see if it ships today. Based on the latest Zoz emails this seems to be the last week for shipping these so if yours doesn't go out today then call your cc. Bizco charged me a week and a half before shipping my toughbook so they are slow.

The scrolling on the touchpad is pretty cool far better than the 2 finger mac crap
Not really.

It's cool, yes. But the Mac's scrolling is a lot smoother.

Also: Aside from "Just because", why is everyone installing Windows 7 64-bit as opposed to 32?

In my (limited) experience, (thinkpad) win 7 64-bit is more responsive/zippy than 32-bit. (even w/ 2gb or ram)

You need a patched kernel, as I stated before.

Find one that will work on the vpro series of Intel processors. The legacy kernel might work with Snow Leopard. As for kernel extensions, you'll have to find those as well. The W8 was apparently not as popular as the more mainstream Toughbooks, so there's not a lot of information out there on the matter. If you have a basic understanding of the computer and its components, you should be able to find kexts that will work from other installs... But the point is, there's not gonna be a step-by-step guide somewhere for this model. You're gonna have to adapt other guides to fit this laptop.

I may try to boot with a modified kernel later today, but no promises.

Thanks please let us know if it worked. I tried the legacy kernel with no success, but maybe I did something wrong.

Still haven't received any update on my order. Noticed that what *I* agreed to with their last set of terms/e-mail... indicates that *my* order will ship.

Subject: Important information on your recent Panasonic Toughbook W8 order

1. I understand the W8 is non-returnable and all sales are final.

2. I understand that unless otherwise stated in this email that this w8 will ship as a base configuration including 2GB of installed memory and will NOT include ant-virus software, Microsoft office software, and will only include the base manufacturer warranty for a period of 3 years."

Interesting how you leave out the disclaimer that says they can cancel your order at any time for any reason. That you also agreed to.

Please respond the following questions:

Sorry for the red text guys. Just wanted it to stand out.

So yes, the "agreement email" also said they can cancel your order because they feel like it. You can't just pin point certain phrases like "this w8 will ship" and act like that trumps the other terms giving them the right to cancel the order. Try to get that sort of flawed logic to hold up in court and you'll be eating those defense lawyer fees just like that other guy who got screwed out of 25 grand.

The only people who have any sort of case are the ones who have been charged and will never receive their laptop. That is completely illegal for Bizco to do and they have to rectify it.

It does suck you didn't get your W8, I do sympathize but you are looking for a loophole that doesn't exist.

As someone who was charged last week, I really would like to know if the laptop has shipped. It sounds like some have without notification. I don't know if mine did ship or if they haven't shipped it yet. Either way, I'm sympathetic with them but this is getting a bit silly. They said 7-14 days after confirmation. We are well past that.

Hi, I just got this W8 and still used Wins XP,
Now have the wireless connection issues: no wireless signal at all, only have wifi
Pin for the wifi is 7 digit number, while my wireless pin is 8 digit.
Anyone can tell me how to figure out this ?

Thanks
I had no problem with the Intel system using my 9 digit personal password right out of the box on my wife's W8. No word on the one I ordered for myself 30 hours before I ordered one for her.

It's only flawed logic if you're looking at it perhaps the way in which you're looking at it. It's all a matter of perspective.

I didn't "agree" to what they stated in an e-mail. I agreed to what I sent them back with. And that included the two points i mentioned... in addition to me stating that I "agreed" to those two points. The reference of "this email" was in reference to my e-mail, not theirs.

And thank you for sympathizing with me, this did drive me nuts- obviously. LMAO
