Plus with IPMI and network cards in UPS to hard boot, you can do nearly everything exept replace physical hardware remotely. You can even reload a server this way. My company just pays an Onforce tech to go in and replace physical HW in our remote data centers, much more cost effective than paying a highly skilled person to turn a wrench or be physicaly available 24/7.

My guess is they are looking for someone very specific. I thought I did great during the interview, but no call back since feb/march.

hmm... I am in Vegas and just recently left my job of over 2 years in a very similar role, but we mostly used MS as management was a bunch of NIX nubs. My DC was at Marquisnet on Warm Springs. I am 4 months into a new job already or I would apply. What side of town is your DC on?

I'm stunned they haven't found anyone for this posting yet? It sounds like a great opportunity.

It starts out by telling you they want to find the free solution first, as opposed to the best solution. Then most of the technology they use is open source or free. Topped off with the Coup de Grace, where they say it's a full time position, but they are also considering interns.

Taken all together it basically says, "Looking for IT slave to work with no budget, low pay, and spend most of your time doing break-fix stuff because those cheap solutions are always crashing."


Unless you're a college kid or a new grad this is the type of job you never want to take again after you get some experience under your belt. Unless you're a glutton for punishment.

headhunter/recruiters still useful? I have never had good luck with them.

I know nothing about system administration, but I have a J.D. and have always wondered who handles the legal side of things. In house counsel or do you have a local firm on retainer?
