Panasonic P50G25 50" 1080p Plasma - $930 + FSS

As long as the 50GT25 is available even over the phone (very limited stock) from US-appliance (see SD thread), and it is said there will be more, I would recommended the GT over the G model ($930 versus $897 for that GT model). Even though you may not want 3D, you really cannot lose getting it. The
50GT is also available from Panasonic EPP(at least yesterday) for about $975+tax, but was with free shipping(last time I looked, double check me). There has been some movement in the Samsung 3D plasma price, downward and a couple of good deals are below $1,000 - see threads.

Do you think prices on plasmas might get sweeter in the next couple months? The GT is tempting me, but I really wanted something 55" or larger.

No, I expect very limited price movement downward on the GT50's ($100 max, if at all). The 55" or larger, also limited price movement downward- from those low prices we have seen - if Panasonic was releasing new ones with major changes-there would be more pressure - according to everything I have seen, that is not the case. Unless there is more black level fallout on the past/current 2010 models.

No more are being made and everyone (major retailers) bought their huge group purchases long ago - expecting the recession to end before Xmas, 3D sales to through the roof, no black level problem etc. When those events didn't happen, most of these had pre xmas sales, then xmas sales and then after xmas sales with huge discounts and combo deals offered. They sold their inventory in these sales. Most of the public can be dupped with just putting a sign out 50% discount of (say $3000 retail) and most trample over each over buying. Now that the price is below $1,000 - most buyers are like us, looking for the "real slick" deal, them fighting the deadline to sell out the last one; BUT, at what price. Most retailers do not have any inventory left, except for the bigger ones >50 or the expensive VT models - so you may be in luck. Also, after March they start selling the display models (another sale).

Black Level. Many of you have read the CNET review report for the Panasonic 2009 models. I read between the lines of what was NOT REVIEWED (2010 models) and why. CNET caused some pain to Pansonic by actually saying there was a black level problem (2009) forcing Pansonic to make their announcement (after most 2009 models were sold). Panasonic, really, didn't like that. Any annoucement now, would drop 2010 model prices - BUT, most have been sold.

^I'll agree with this... In fact prices on the P50GT25 haven't really changed *that* much for months now. Before Xmas it was available from Amazon in a bundle at $1399. Around the Super Bowl it dropped to $999 for the TV alone from Amazon. Now the rock bottom price is $897 for TV alone from US Appliance. If you were too purchase all of the same items (3D starter kit plus 3D blu ray player) that used to be in the bundle today, you'd still come out to $1200-$1300 no matter who you purchase from. So the real drop in price for the bundle is less than $200 over a several month time span. Real difference is #1 perception and #2 the fact that you can get a better deal on the TV by itself if you don't want the 3D stuff. Personally I think we'll still see some reductions in price going forward, but it'll be incremental more than anything else.
