signing up solely for credit card bonuses
It's to my understanding that closing credit card accounts generally lowers your credit score temporarily. Now I usually take advantage of the $100-$200 cash back bonuses that show up from time to time but on cards with no annual fees. I use them enough to get the bonus, then typically stash them away in some forgetful place.
But do you SDer's do the same for bonuses on even the charge cards that usually come with an annual fee (amex, aa etc)? Is the bonus (say 50k miles) worth the opening and closing of a charge card (in terms of lowering your credit score) in order to avoid paying the annual fee? Or is your credit good enough where you don't mind loosing a few points to opening/closing the account in order to get a free trip to hawaii?
Fill me in! I just got a new wetsuit.
