I try to clean mine within a few days after I shoot. Doesn't always work out that way though.

If I were you, I would get a bore snake and some Hoppe's 9 and call it a day - http://www.amazon.com/Hoppes-2401...003ITBKRC/

Thanks for the info

Good call. It's been almost 20 years since my scouting days. I'm pretty rusty.

Were they bought new? And havent been fired yet? I would clean them before you fire them. Some manufacturers put crazy amount of shit on their guns from teh factory. Not sure if Ruger does or not, but it can't hurt. Also, it has been recommended to me on more than one occasion that some guns run better with grease, rather than oil in certain spots. Best bet is to find a forum specific to your manufacturer and see what they recommend.

Really enjoying my M&P Shield 9mm so far. Only have about 200 rounds through it but I am in love. Sending it out this week to get a trigger job done - hoping it is silky smooth when I get it back.

Great site, thanks for the link. I'll keep a lookout for something on there.

What are your thoughts on it? Seems like a decent price, just wonder about the actual quality.
Thought I would report in on my safe experience.

I didn't end up getting the one I posted, I went with the smaller "12 gun safe" from Lowes - LINK [lowes.com]

So far, it is terrific. It seems to be about 50-80 lbs. heavier then comparable Stack-on/Sentry safes. The Liberty safe from Lowes has a 5-year warranty and it is made in the US, rather than a 1 year warranty and made in China which seems to be common at this price point. I don't really have a need for the larger safe, so I decided to save floor space and $$ and go with this one.

The organization on the inside is nice. There is a spot on the left for rifles, and a spot on the right for rifles OR customizeable shelving. I am able to fit quite a lot of stuff inside.

Of course it is a tight fit. The gun rating is really random. I could probably fit 30+ handguns in this thing but not 10 ARs, so take the rating for this safe (any safe, really) with a grain of salt.

Overall I think it was a really good value. I got it for $339 after 10% off moving coupon and 5% Discover CB.

I have been offered a used mossberg 500 for $225. I haven't seen it yet or anything but I'm told its in good condition. How good of a deal would it be?

There are a bajillion variations of the Mossberg 500. Depends on the model, but I would probably say it is an OK deal if you are in the market for one anyways. Maybe some shotgun experts can chime in.

Yeah and I don't know enough about them to keep myself from getting screwed so I guess I will have to ask for more specifics and see. I would like a shotgun but I need to know I'm getting a good deal so I can get most or all of my money back if I want to sell it.

To give a point of reference, I bought a 7+1 12ga for $350 out the door, brand new. It came with a regular polymer stock as well as a pistol-style grip.

Mossberg 500 are great cheap shotguns. Probably the most popular for any accessories as well.
