Just laid off...need advice about broken down car
A little background: my husband was laid off today from his job. He had been working there approximately 6 weeks. We have approximately $2900 in savings bonds and cash stashed for emergencies because this job was temporary and we knew that from the beginning. He only took it because he had been jobless for about 3 months before that. Our monthly bills total approximately $1200. I have a job but it pays monthly net 30 (30 days after submitting the monthly invoice) and I worked very little last month because my mother just had a baby and I'd been helping her out all month so this paycheck will be VERY low.
The real problem right now is that our car (89 Honda Accord) is having problems with starting and we have been borrowing my husband's grandfather's truck to get to work and back. He recently told us that he would like it back as soon as possible. Well, with this job situation, we don't know what to do.
Should we fix the car with the savings? Should we sell this one and look for another vehicle? Should we do something else altogether?
