So has anyone done the "Smoked by Windows Phone" contest? I'd love to do it and get rid of my old Optimus, but there's no MS stores remotely near me..

It's over now, ended on the 29th, but I really am curious as to the amount of people that took advantage of that deal? I was surprised there isn't a MS store in NYC, actually... I'd have to imagine that once they follow through with the wait lists (or don't follow through with them) that they will release figures on their 99% win rate and the total number of Androids beat.

Actually, it's extended until April 5th, just the terms have changed a bit. Now it's the first 100 per day get to swap, the next 500 get $25 GC's, and prepaid phones are no longer taken for trade-in.

Even with hints Geo Defense wasn't easy, but a very fun way to get 200 extra achievements.

I'm on Verizon, so I have the only device they offer, HTC Trophy, but swapped out the 16GB micro SDHC for a 32GB (Class 2 because WP7 doesn't want outright speed, rather the highest random read and write speeds) I sure hope the next gen phones will support SDXC so I can put a 64GB or higher micro card in. If I could do 64GB, I would no longer carry my Zune around. Sure I couldn't pack my phone with WMA Lossless music files, but some sacrifices have to be made.

Haven't heard about those Game Chest games in a long time, haha. Did you see in the thread the list of free games?

I bet if there was a metacritic for phones (is there?) it would be getting ratings near 90.

I just skimmed the article you posted...but the recap is normally the last paragraph and that dude was hardly saying it is a let down.

Hey guys I currently only have a text and voice phone but I'm considering jumping into an android or WP7. Sprint currently only has the HTC Arrive. Can I get your thoughts on the HTC Arrive and\or WP7 in general? Heck even sites that are not all user comment reviews.

If you aren't already sunk into the Android world, the WP7 is a really nice platform.

I have a friend on an Arrive and seems to like it. I personally would have liked the physical keyboard, but didn't have a good option for one on AT&T. The downside for Sprint and Verizon though is that their phones are 1.5 years old now...which is an eternity in the world of smartphones, but it means you can get them for pretty cheap.

You will not find a lot of talk ANYWHERE about WP7 and Sprint/Verizon. Much like when the iPhone came out, it is AT&T that is taking charge here...and they are using exclusive contracts to try and bring on new customers.

Just looked on Sprint, it is $50 now, and there are two other $50 options for Android and a couple more for Free. It fits right in with the other phones, I think better specs than the $50 Android options for sure. Not even offered on Amazon anymore, but it is free on WIREFLY if you have ever used that (good site, I've gotten 4 phones from there but know that the point of what they do is try to up sell your plan for 6 months...so it isn't always that good of a deal.)

Might not be a bad idea to buy one used for ~$150 (eBay) and sit on your 2 year contract.

So...about games on the platform. I gave the Sid Meier's Civilization a go over the weekend. Really nice Turn based strategy game! I didn't think it would play out well on a touch screen, but I was quite happy with how the demo played out. It did make my 4" screen look tiny though. It is hardly a typical phone game...took me a couple hours to play through a round as I was getting the hang of it all and learning the plan of action. Could pick up/pause the game in the middle of a turn VERY easily though.

No idea if the real game (meaning not the demo) has multi-player [doubt it], but getting a couple of friends into a match and playing a long game of Risk, I could see how that would be a lot of fun. Since it is turn based, you could play almost like a madden league where you just tell everyone you are advancing the league twice a day or something.

Anyway, give the demo a try if you are into those type of things.

They are doing a really good job with their commercials IMO. Same lines as that Samsung commercial where they were mocking the iPhone. I do find it funny that Samsung is getting all pissy about the commercials they are airing in India (the smoked by WP older ones)
