price kind of depends 3 pack is about 129.00 or technet for 129 gets you all you could need?

man why is windows so overly priced. i have 2 legit copies of windows through their student offer, but im gonna be honest... if i didn't have the student accounts no way i would dish out $100 on an OS. and many i know wouldn't either. profit and revenue are determined by Price X Quantity. You can lower price and increase quantity of sales to reach the same if not greater profit/revenue.

I assume you are referring to the family pack. That is for 3 upgrades. You must already have a valid license for Vista or XP for each of those 3 licenses.

This is the full OEM version. It allows you to do a clean install on one computer.

The reason why all software is overpriced: they're also assuming a fair percentage of computers pirate their OS's no matter the price. The OS could be $10 and people would still pirate it. This is their way of evening things out... at the expense of people who actually do things legitimately. Then there's the point where they go too far. I'm looking at you Adobe... You have to pay a small fortune for their stuff.

Oh no doubt about Adobe. Don't even get me started on the price of Photoshop lol. You need to rent out your kidney for that one.

full circle... Pirates won't pay for Windows 7 b/c it's too expensive. Software developers make up an excuse that this causes them to increase prices. Their actual net gain/loss from the pirate is zero. If a pirate was given a choice between getting a $600 piece of software for free with the same risk as getting a $5 piece of software, it's not a shock which one they're going to go for.

And since when were eye patches back in style!

Depends on demand elasticity for the product. Windows is a relatively ineleastic good as people will need to buy an OS in order to get a computer regardless of the price. They could probably generate more profits by raising the price of windows despite the lost sales that would occur.

Plus I'm sure that MS is in cahoots with OEMs to steer consumers towards buying Dells, etc who pay much less than retail for Windows, instead of building their own PCs.

I just bought this same thing last week and newegg CS just applied a $10 credit to my card even though technically I'm not eligible. Newegg +1.

I wish there was a deal to get a single copy of Windows 7 Professional OEM for about $120. Been a few months since I've seen it that low and should have bought it then.

Where did you see this? I just checked and they want $200 for the standard subscription. Just curious, because for $129 I would bite. Been debating getting a TechNet sub for a while now.

technet is restricted-use license and when has a new sub been $129 for all-comers?
