I like Pret A Manger in London, fairly cheap and definitely yummy. Costa's for coffee and breakfast. Normal restaurants are insanely expensive comparing to the US, but there are always pubs with fish & chips and bangers & mash. Do not forget that you can find some ready to eat stuff in the grocery stores.
£300 is pretty good for a week, but you'll have to budget carefully if that includes your transportation and entertainment costs.
Don't forget about half price tickets in Leicester Square!

People watching in Camden, Buckingham Palace and Covent Garden are some of my favorite London activities.
Greenwich is a quick train ride, and all the sights there are free. beautiful place to spend an afternoon.
The Tate Modern and the National Gallery museums are also free entry and great museums.
Get your lunch at the Marks and Spencers deli section, they've got great sandwiches very cheap. Indulge in the local fare and you will save lots of $$-fish and chips, kebabs, cornish pasties-avoid costly meals in pubs.

Sorry I didn't notice these posts earlier. Anyways I'm leaving for London in a few hours and I can let you know about our hotel when I get back.

For the flight, I used airfarewatchdog.com and through that site it found a flight on Iberia.com, but the actual flight is through British Airways. Roundtrip from Seattle to London direct flight was $442 with taxes! I noticed the flights are more expensive now, but definitely check all three sites I mentioned.

I booked the hotel through priceline. It's a 4* Hilton in the Regent Park area. Not sure if you guys are traveling on a budget or not, but it was kind of a special occasion for us so we decided to upgrade. The total cost for 6 nights was $850. Seems like a lot, but when you compare it to the price they normally charge we saved a fortune. Check out betterbidding.com for bidding solutions.

If you're a little more picky, I saw that hotels.com has a lot of hotels in the $130 range but that was for the dates I was looking for. I've always had good luck with priceline so that's who I went with, but I'll let you know about the experience when I get back. Good luck £300 is a doable amount for a week in london. Just don't plan on partying in any decent nightclubs in Central as you may find yourself out of pocket pretty quick

Thanks for the info. I will be visiting the weekend of the Royal wedding for 4 days. I have to plan my trip details as it is my first visit to UK but I would be staying with a friend. I might visit Paris using the EuroStar. Take some sight seeing tours to Windsor Castle, Stone Hendge and Bath or Oxford.

I was going to say that Pret a Manger is a life saver. Everything is fresh and pretty cheap for London.

I scored the Iberia deal a while ago also. San Fran to London for $440 TOTAL RT! Non-stop British Air going and one stop American Air coming back. I leave on Monday, 2 full weeks. I've been to Ireland before, but never England and Scotland!

Really not sure where to stay for CHEAP, have found some options though.

I already read a lot about priceline, but still scared to bid. I wish OP would still be here to tell me how she got the deal on priceline. By the way, we checked prices for Eurostar - it is very expensive, at least for the time we're looking Apr 6-11. We wanted to go to Paris for a day or two, but I guess we'll have to skip it now...

Does anyone know how much one need to pay for a visit to an average night club? What's the dress code? I have no clue about anything related to it. Being a mother of twins for over two years made me feel, like I am a little old for this. But since it's just me and my husband, I really want to go.

Eurostar bookings start almost 120 days in advance so closer you are to the travel date the prices go up just like plane tickets.
