Looking for Laptop couch solution - laptop desk?
Sharing a small condo with my fiance & we both have rather large latops - 15.6+" each.1 small couch. I have a wxpadforlaptop [amazon.com] - which was great before when I was a single person on the couch & could slide my mouse on the couch without bumping into any1else. But now as two on the couch, we both need laptop desk that can help dissipitate heat but just as important - have an extended area allow the mouse to move on. Any ideas? |

Cut a piece of plywood or thin sheet of regular wood to desired size. You could cut and glue/attach pieces where the laptop feet sit for extra elevation. Then if desired, attach some sort of film, laminate, shelf liner, or something to make it smooth (sand, paint?). Or you could use a combination of duct tape and a mouse pad. It'd work, and be easy, even with just hand tools.
There might be something ready made, oversized for mouse use, but I haven't seen it. If you want something free standing, maybe find a tv tray, might be wide enough, and the tops would detach for lap use. They do have mobile laptop desks. |

This one has a mouse pad - I have one, though I don't use it on the couch but in the bed.

as long as the surface the laptop sits on is smooth and hard like a table top, there should be no issues with heat...
___ there are specific styles of small mobile carts that would be great for couch computing. check staples, officemax, etc... alternatively, a lapdesk with hard working surface on top and a pillow or beanbag type bottom would work. you'd just need to look around for one large enough to support your laptop and mouse together. I thought elevated @ four corners would be better for heat flow not an even flat surface? |
