Stacking cashback? How is it done?

mrcoolguy209 549 173 March 16, 2011 at 06:21 PM
I have a Discover card that will give me 5% cashback if I link through it to J&R.

I've heard others talk about how the "stack" cashback offers...I saw that FatWallet has 3% cashback for J&R too.

If I click through from Discover's site and end up on the J&R page, do I then open a new tab and click through FW's website as well? Using this scenario, I would end up with 2 tabs both on J&R website.

Is that how people stack cashback?

This is very difficult to do. The clickthrough tells the retailer who delivered the traffic to them and it is noted in the clickthrough site. Once the transaction is completed, information pertaining to the transaction is relayed back to the clickthrough site to credit your account. the issue is, as you said, you can click through both sites but complete the transaction in only 1 tab/window/session.

In the past, I had luck with getting multiple cash backs, usually through Discover and Bing. I've never had luck calling discover to correct cash back - they always wanted receipts, etc etc. Bing, however, was easy to email and get cash back credited, mostly because they were just so swamped with inquiries. So, I'd clickthrough Discover, get the cash back, then email Bing.

if you have two separate links, you can't stack them. you'd need to have one link (i.e. FW) and then your card would have to give you cashback when you used it (not through a link)

@ you Smilie

NO. They killed it last year. It was so great and glorious though. RIP.

Take your best option now, wait for the free money and be done with the purchase. Even 1% back is a great deal.

Just make sure your shipping options are FAST. If you have to wait weeks to get it, chances are, it'll be cheaper before you get it laugh out loud

afaik, the way most people do it is through lying. They click through the first site, take a screen shot of the page that says "if you continue, you'll get x% CB," then go to the next site, repeat, until the final site where they'll clickthru and buy normally. Then, they'll email CS of the first sites with the screenshot and say something like "WTF WHEREZ MY MONIE$$ BEEYATCH!! HERE IZ SCREENSHOTZ!!1~!one!" If CS is nice, they'll credit the account.

Steve Gibson on password policies [grc.com]: I mean, I don't get this change it every eight weeks. ... It's not as if passwords are traveling by camel after they've been stolen, going to the bad guys, and so there's, like, some weird eight-week window, like, oh, we're going to change your password so that the stale password no longer works. ... And all this does is make IT people despised because users, who are not dumb, they think, why am I - why do I have to do this? What problem is this solving?

So I suppose my next question would be: Does FatWallet cave in typicallY?

fw site states "If we do not get paid by the merchant, we do not pay you" and "When we get paid, you get paid. When we don't, you don't." -- if you don't shop via a fw cashback link, and complete the transaction during that browser session (i.e. in accordance with their rules and procedures), they can't get paid.. so how would they pay you?

When you buy more, you save more. And when you save more, you can buy more.
And when you buy more, you save more. It all starts when you BUY MORE.

I used to get cash back using both bing and bank of america add it up program, would just open a new tab with whatever one I didn't already have open, I know I've tried recently with mr rebates and add it up, but have only gotten cash back from one of them when I've tried that. Just go with whoever gives you the highest percent back and try to combine it with a credit card that rewards you more for certain types of purchases.

has anyone been successful in stacking Discover with a cash back sight recently? I recently got a Discover card and am trying to figure out how to stack Shopdiscover and another cash back link. Read through this entire thread and it seems inconclusive. Any help is appreciated.
