Then it's a crime if you partake of it whilst driving.

My weapon. I put my hands on the wheel to indicate i had a weapon, and he asked me if that's why i had my hands on the wheel. He asked me to step out so he could "hold on to it while we took care of the reason he pulled me over." Then he thanked me for letting him know, and i told him they have enough to worry about with people they pull over and not knowing who they are. He took my license, ran it, gave it back along with my gun, and told me to slow down.

Your weapon, or your weapon?

I've always put my hands on the steering wheel, just from the perspective of "this guy has a gun and I'm currently satisfied with the number of holes my body has, so I'll just make sure he knows I'm not trying to pull anything".
