Thread Details

Noticed we didn't have an official thread for this yet so I thought i'd make one...

Just found this Skyrim preview from PC Gamer...

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/03/18...m-preview/

Looks like some interesting changes will be happening. Including implenting perks from the Fallout series. Interesting notes about the level scaling as well...I can't wait for this game. Big Grin

What platform do you plan on getting it for? For me its a no brainer... PC all the way. I hope they dont go crazy w/ the system requirements though. Dont feel like upgrading my PC just yet.

Nice preview. Every time I come across something about Skyrim I get a little more excited.

PC for me. I loved the perks system in Fallout, and I'm happy to see they're implementing it here.

I do hope the main storyline is a little more engaging this time. The Elder Scroll series is great fun on many levels, but the actual plot, characters, etc... have always felt a little secondary.

Same could be said of Fallout 3 as well. I played through about an hour of Oblivion (which I admit is very superficial) but b/t the first person combat and the wonky animations, I just couldn't get into it. That said, I'm still interested in how this game will turn out as the fantasy setting is very unique and it looks like they've addressed the animation issues with the new engine.

Yeah the animation was a little janky in Oblivion. I hated the first 2 hours of Oblivion. Getting out of that cell and stumbling through the caves with Jean Luc Picard was a boring way to start the game IMO.

You could do the overhead/3rd person camera, but I found that a little cumbersome. Besides it didn't do much for the combat which is passable, but nothing like a decent FPS (which is actually a good thing for me as I get motion sickness pretty quickly).

I tried 3rd person as well and all it did was make me hate the animation even more. Funny thing about all this is that I largely enjoyed Fallout 3 despite it suffering from the same shortcomings.

The main gripe I had with Oblivion is that it was so much less engaging than Morrowind. At least with Skyrim they seem to be taking all the mods to heart, and improving some of the mistakes they made. I'll keep any eye on it I guess.

I will be buying for the pc. Although if it could happen (cloud saves that worked on multiple systems), I would buy for 360/ps3 first for the playthrough and then when expansions come out I would buy for the pc and continue the game with mods.

Just found this article floating around. Includes a quote from Todd Howard's OXM interview...

http://theelderscrollsskyrim.com/..._march_21/

"Also improving is the ability to use the new engine and have zero auto-generated environments. Skyrim will only host five major cities compared to nine in Oblivion. Doing so will make cities feel less forced. The task will not be easy, as the developers will have to place and draw in every item by hand."

I think that's a good thing. Things were very repetitive at points in Oblivion. Although, I want a HUGE world to explore, I guess we can expect the size to be dwindled as has been the case in each Elder Scrolls game.

I'm very excited for Skyrim Big Grin. Impatiently waiting for 11/11/11. I'll probably buy for PS3. I love doing console for games like this.

yea, the more I think about it... i think i'm getting it for ps3 at first. My reasons being... there wont be any good mods for awhile and I have a feeling that this game will be very taxing on my computer. I'll probably do my first run through on the console and then 6-12mos later i'll pick up the pc version when bugs and mods are out
