Good deal, but it is 3rd party. Better than buying a WD drive and trying to hack it I guess and it comes with a cradle. Good buy for slim 4gb owners.

No, the model that Microsoft uses is specifically a WD BEVS or BEVT, which are 5400rpm drives. Using the cloned HD images (like what this seller is doing), it's possible to use a WD Scorpio Black 7200rpm, though I have no idea if speeds are noticeably improved in any real way.

7200RPM drive doesn't make any noticeable difference on installing or loading (at least on the non-slim Xbox 360 - not sure about the slim). The stock drive in my Xbox (60GB, non-slim) was 5400RPM. I tried a 160GB WD Scorpio Black (7200RPM), and there was no appreciable difference in installing or loading games. Later went to a 250GB WD Scorpio Blue (5400RPM), and disk performance appeared to be the same.

Based on the seller, it looks like fakes and at this price you're better off just getting one yourself with a more solid drive inside. Notice the manufacturer is "AGPtek" rather than Microsoft as an official drive would be.

I can't say for sure this will not upset Microsoft in some way, but it's not like you're trying to run copied game discs or something with it. What gets you banned is mods to the dvd drive connections to bypass copyright software.

You two are idiots. Go find me just one story of someone being banned for using 3rd party hard drives. I bought this exact one last year, and I'm on xbox live every day and no problems whatsoever.

The Xbox Live terms of service does say that they can ban you for unauthorized hardware (link [xbox.com] - see section 12), but I've yet to hear of any cases where anyone has gotten banned just for using an unlicensed 3rd party drive. All the banning cases I've heard involving a 3rd party drive also involve the owner modding their Xbox to be able to play game backups (from the HDD or burned DVDs).

The biggest risk with getting one of these pre-made 3rd party drives is the uncertainty of the quality. Are they using new drives? Used? Refurbs? Broken drives that they've repaired themselves? Are they even a quality drive (like the WD's you can re-flash the firmware on)? The outer plastic shell may be "new", but the actual functional components are an unknown.

So just a couple comments....

From what I can tell, this deal i the normal price for the item. I ordered this same drive about a month ago, from buy.com, because I thought it was a temp deal. It was still that same price 2 weeks later. ( I could be wrong about this).

About the drive...
It is a 3rd party drive. If this is a problem with you, then you wont like it. Like I said, I have had it for a month now and had no problems. When you choose your "save location" the drive name does show up in Chinese ( yes I know there is no language called "chinese", but you know what I mean).

For my overall opinion, I am okay with it, if you are comparing it to the $125 price tag on a legit Microsoft HD, but since amazon is selling the hard drives for like $90 now, if I could go back in time, I would prob rather have an official one for $90. But that is probably just for my own peace of mind, and not becuase there is actually anything wrong with this drive.
