Thread Details

After more than a year I just came back to the gym today at South Coast Metro, Orange County, CA to find out my membership is invalid to check in but they let me go for today. I used to work out at this club with my $20 per year membership I got from here during their 20th anniversary but not anymore. On the way out I ask the front desk why: they said they shut down last August to remodel and just open in January to be a Super Sport Club.

After looked at my membership status, $20/year renewal, they offer me to upgrade with an extra $10/month (usually $15/month) with no contract, pay month to month and I can get out anytime to get back to my Sport all club membership.

I didn't take it right away: paying $120 on top of $20 per year might be too much for my budget. But I hope this will help someone as a good deal. And of course YMMV, check your local Super Sport club for more info.

I can't find any decent specials for 24hr fitness in general right now. 2 years ago they had a $199 1-year special, now for the same deal its $349.

In 10 years, they'll close this club down again, make a few upgrades, change the classification of the club to Super Extreme Sport and charge all the formers members even more to get in. Thanks 24 Hour!

I did find this deal from Costco $299 for a 2 year contract= $12.50/ month. And then you could do the $10/per month add on for Super Sport upgrade if that special is going on in your area. That would be $22.50/ per month for a Super Sport membership which sounds like a great deal to me.

Any thoughts guys?

He's saying about "upgrade" only, so you can't compare your total price with his "upgrade" cost.

When I tried to do this after purchasing the Costco deal, the super sport rep said they will take how ever many remaining days you have left on your costco deal, and pro-rate it to the cost of their regular membership. For example, they will break down the costco deal 2 years for $299 to 730 days/$299 = $.41/day. I used only 7 days of my costco pass, so $.41x7days = $2.87 - $299 = $296.13 credit used towards their i think $599 for 2 year membership to a supersport. The way the rep explained the deal to me, there is almost no benefit purchasing from costco and then using that at a super sport. Someone please correct me if im wrong, so I know what to say the next time i got back to a super sport and try to upgrade.

I would also check with 24 hour fitness to see if you are able to upgrade Costco purchased memberships, I have seen in other posts that you can't upgrade if you purchased via Costco, so check with your local 24 hour club to verify before you spend the money on the Costco deal.

IF you are correct $600 for a 2 year Super Sport membership sounds good to me. That works out to $25 per month which I think is a great deal. Only downside is you have to pay up front $600 which isn't chump change.

Sorry, I'm not sure if the $599 is correct. I remember it coming out to about $40-$45 a month, thinking that the convenience of going to a supersport gym as opposed to a sport gym wasnt worth paying 3-4 times more.

Well for me I was looking at the Super Sport because it's less crowded compared to the Sport Club in my area.

first, which club did you originally join at?

I believe, that if you joined at that club, you still have access. Look over your original agreement (if you don't have it, you can request a copy from 24hour online.)

and that $10 price looks good if its for all Super Sport access. I would make sure to completely read the document before signing it. I just checked my membership and its $20/mo to upgrade to all Super Sport access (paying $29/yr currently).

So if you know of a club that will be remodeled and changed into a super sport (read the article) use the old club at least once before it shuts down (within one year). For example, the Costa Mesa 19th St. location will be shut down soon. There will be a Super Sport opening in Triangle Square. Not sure if they will remodel and open the old location but use it at least once before it closes for courtesy access. I joined at the 19th St. location so I should be OK unless they reopen the old one (after remodeling).

Sorry, I didn't ask for a New Member quote.

I've joined at a club some where in San Diego. Yes, I drove about 200 miles round trip to get the deal at that time: $649/yr and renewal at $20/yr.

I forgot about ALL Super Sport access so I don't know it's for South Coast Metro only or not.

Yes, they said the 19th st at Costa Meas will close and the New Triangle Square Super Sport will open later. So I don't think visit at 19th st club will get me in the new one though. I might be wrong so don't quote me on that.

Also the one in Tustin will be Super Sport. They said there will be a lot of brand new or remodeled Super Sport in the future and told me it's a good time now for me to upgrade. Wait, if they said that meaning $10/mo extra will be good for all access. I will double check next weekend if I decide to upgrade.

Anyone knows the one in Irvine Spectrum is Super Sport or Ultra Super Sport or downgrade to Sport? Did I get the name right?

Visiting the 19th St. club should get you access to the Triangle Square location (till 19th reopens). Checking google and it looks like the 19th St. club will reopen after a remodel (someone else told me the same claiming the manager told them so).

The online upgrade only offers ALL club access so its probably that but I would make sure to read over the new contract thoroughly before signing. The only Ultra in CA is the Irvine Towers locations (not the Spectrum location.)
