That margin in NA has exploded recently. The gap was 7 Mil in 09/10, now its 16 in 12/13? That $200 price point really worked I guess.

IDC puts the total sold a little higher: IDC's report also highlights that just this past December, Sony's PS3 managed to surpass the number of Xbox 360s shipped worldwide (about 77 million vs. 76 million)

How much of a difference do you guys think it would have made if MS hadn't been so stubborn with HD-DVD's and gone with Blu-ray this gen?

it would have cost them the 1 year lead they had and the huge market share lead.. xbox 360 dropped in november 2005, first blu ray player came out in june 2006..

Not necessarily. They could've done an add-on drive accessory just like they did with HD-DVD but used the blu-ray format instead. Similarly, the first HD-DVD players weren't available until spring 2006 and the 360 add-on didnt launch until November later that year. MS clearly backed the wrong horse in that race.

it would have cost even more... the final bluray revisions were not done until 2007.. remember when all the people that bought the first gen bluray players that then became obsolete after they revised the specs 3 times. that was why people would buy a ps3 instead of a bluray player, it was the only future proof player at the time

They easily could've integrated firmware updates via Xbox Live. Sure the cost would've been higher but it most likely would've been offset in additional sales of the consoles and accessories. Sony got a huge foot in the door with Blu-ray and began to grow their install base from there. Without that advantage, threads like this probably wouldn't have ever existed.
