Report: PS3 Passes Xbox 360 Worldwide

What trends? 500K difference in userbase doesn't translate to much in software sales. Sony would be lucky to even garner 60% of the HD console user base (which would require significantly more than a 500K userbase lead) at this point and even then that doesn't warrant 3rd party developers to neglect the other 40% (again at best) on 360 (not to mention PC which has higher profit margins due to digital distribution+no platform licensing fees as well as rising development costs.)

It's no secret the hardware is already grossly underpowered compared to an average computer in GPU, CPU and system resources. To think that consoles will last 15 years is pretty much borderline downs.

And I'm not sure you understand the term "riding my coattails,"... not that it comes as any huge surprise...

not very many people have the time to rock both consoles enough to make it worth the now ~$600 startup cost...$300 for one is an easier pill, and if you don't have the time to play the one machine you spent $300 on...you won't go drop another $300.

Do you know what is INSIDE your shinny consoles? It is...a computer...*GASP!*

But, if that is too difficult for your to grasp...you are saying a 15 year life span...the PSone came out just about 15 years ago (fall 1995)...do you still play your PS1? Would you still be content with PS1 graphics?

If this report was about "unique households," I would believe it. Otherwise, I don't think the PS3 has surpassed the 360 in total worldwide sales just yet.
