Went to Target to return something and went to the clearance section in the electronics area. I haven't visited the clearance end caps in a while since they haven't produced anything worthwhile forever, but something told me I should check just in case. Low and behold they had two smartpens on clearance. The Livescribe Echo 4GB originally $149.99 now $37.48 and the Pulse 2GB originally $99.99 now $24.98, which are great deals.

I checked eBay prices and the 4GB is going for around $100 and the 2GB for around $60. I know I could have bought these all up and made a little profit on eBay but I resisted the temptation. It's not something I would use but I'm some fellow Slickdealer's would love to grab them up.

This store had 2 x 4GB versions and 1 x 2GB version. As always YMMV, good luck and happy hunting! I'm still tempted to run back to the store and snatch them up but I won't Smilie

Pics included.

FYI, I found them in a Madison, WI store.

Good side-by-side between the Echo and Pulse

I use the 2GB version with the software installed on multiple computers. My work laptop is Win 7 64-bit on a 64 bit CPU. My school is Win 7 32. Both work fine. (chrischrischris)

Wow, that is a great deal. I hope that my target has one of these. I purchased one as a gift for my brother last year at full price. I had noticed quite a few of the 'books' on clearance but never one of the pens.
Great find, thanks for positing.

Anyone have the stock checker to see where these pens are hiding?

Got a few yesterday. There are two versions of the 2gb, one is like in the OP's pic and the other in a larger box. Both are same price. I've attached UPC codes in case they are locked and you want to check price.

I did my undergrad paper on these pens. Basically, as you write, it'll record what's going on. For example, when you're writing X as the limited reaches 8, it'll record the professor's lecture where he talks about as it reaches 8, spaceship launched. So that when you review your handwritten notes later, you'll see your handwritten note and be able to hear your professor talks about spaceship.

It's definitely pretty neato if you make good use of it.

EDIT: I was drunk last night. Sry. It's just a fancy pen that records as you write so you'll never "miss" a word. You'll also need to use a special notebook so that it'll record what you write. Then, you can upload what you wrote onto the desktop software, click on that particular part on where you wrote (either about spaceships or limits) and it'll playback the audio that was happening at that time.

It will get pricey because the notebooks aren't cheap. I believe 20 bucks for 4?

Thanks for trying to explain how this works, but what you just said makes no sense at all. I'm laughing hysterically because of your nonsensical gibberish. Again, no offense intended, but thanks for the effort to explain and thanks for the laugh.

The description here [slashgear.com] is probably a bit more descriptive. : P

Basically, it's a pen that "scans" your handwritten notes while you're writing them, and acts as a digital voice recorder, allowing you to record audio at the same time. This should allow you to easily jump to the part of the audio corresponding with a given section of notes. Some might find it useful for taking notes for lectures, meetings and so on.
