You are going to want to fly into San Diego Airport (SAN). The next closest airport is Orange County which is over an hour away.

Your major cost is going to be the plane tickets. $2K may not even be doable particularly since you are coming during peak tourism season.


I suggest that you just start looking at vacation package sites:

Well the problem is $2,000 is limiting. I assume that includes your airfare.

No one site is better than another it just depends on which has the best deal. You should try your dates of travel on multiple sites.

If you plan on renting a car then really anywhere in San Diego will be fine (as a guideline stick to the coastal areas). If you are not going to have a car then I would suggest either staying downtown or in oldtown where you can easily access public transportation.

$2K is doable for 5-7 nights including airfare.

Go to livingsocial.com and register. They have vacation package deals once a week. they normally do not include airfare but will offer specials like a 2 night stay, boogie board rental, free bottle of wine, $50 dining credit and free vallet parking for around $200. Sometimes less sometimes a little more. once you find a good deal buy a couple of them and then your hotel and food should be covered.


...I just re-read your post. $2K for 4 people... yeah that. just might not happen. I thought it was for 2 people. but hey if you find a flight for $350 RT then it'll work. keep me posted and let me know if you can pull it off. I'd be impressed. Hard but not impossible

a good deal= Check the price of a flight 4 weeks from today. If you find a fare 25% or more lower then purchase it. Kayak.com is a good search.

We went out there in December-flew into Vegas and out of LA -rented a car. We spent about your budget but all hotel nights were FREE. I would sign up for the Choice Hotels CC and you can get up to 4 free nights. No fee on CC. Also you could sign up for the Hyatt one and get 2 nights with the annual fee at I think $75. We stayed at Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad-had to pay $30 for valet but well worth it, beautiful hotel and awsome staff. Bring donuts with you for breakfast as the buffet is like $30-40 a person, but you will have a fridge in your room. I also had free nights on my Marriott visa. They give you one each year with a $65 fee. We stayed at the Residence Inn close to Belmont park-fun place for the kids and bought a coupon off Groupon. If you like authentic Mexican without breaking the bank stop at Robertos while your at Belmont-- four of ate with extra to take back to the hotel for under $20, Not fancy but there is also a Italian restaurant there too.. Baja Fresh is a great mexican restaurant and don't forget In and Out Burger.

Just to clarify-we were in San Diego-Just wanted to see alot of country while we were out there!
