how do i stretch the screen on my tv? **solved**

RUsum1 9,543 1,696 April 15, 2011 at 06:48 PM
i just hooked up my LG 32LE5300 tv (va panel Frown instead of ips though). i have always been able to find the vertical and horizontal stretch on my computer monitors but i can't find it for the life of me for this tv. all of the menu options that i can find have to do with color and lighting for the picture but i can't actually stretch it so the picture goes to the border of the screen. as it is there is currently more than 1/2" on the left and right sides and a little less than 1/2" on the top and bottom that isn't being used. i know it's not THAT much but i would like to be able to take full advantage of my 32"

The controller on the T.V. should have a zoom/stretch option. (I'm assuming your not using this for computer)

does this matter? i'm not trying to change the resolution. i want to adjust the vertical and horizontal size of the screen so that the picture actually reaches the borders

won't zoom just zoom into the picture but not make it bigger?

it's standard underscan / overscan issue.
it's not related to resolution you need to resize picture for your tv

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overscan

you have something like this : http://www.techpowerup.com/forums...p?t=134276

and changes for AMD / ATI here : http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/sh...2&page=234

If you connect your PC to your TV then the problem why your picture isn't stretched all the way to the borders is because of underscan/overscan like others have stated.

All TVs should have options for different screen sizes/picture sizes, play around with it, you might find one that would fit the picture into the whole screen. But the correct way to fix it is still to change it from your PC

you have ATI card, under / over scan settings in CCC ; just navigate to this
and changes for AMD / ATI here :http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/sh...2&page=234

sometimes you need to select an item from black triangle (second picture here) :
http://www.bit-tech.net/blog/2010...st-driver/

also you can try to download the latest ATI driver from here http://sites.amd.com/us/game/down...n7-64.aspx

I have this card, it works fine windows 7

i don't get any of those options in my catalyst control center. i have the newest driver too

here are some screenshots from that computer

picture 1 is what opens up first and i choose the highlighted section
picture 2 shows that no display is even shown when i select that option
picture 3 is the option i then choose and set the resolution to 1920x1080, high 32-bit color, and 60hz then hit apply
picture 4 is when i go back to the desktop option from the first picture (notice no picture in that bar toward the bottom like in one of the examples from the link...even when i press detect display)
- identify seems to do nothing
- properties takes me back to desktop properties screen where i set resolution

i don't see any options like others see in the CCC.

what happens if you click on properties?
try to run wizard and set advanced mode.

the above pictures ARE advance mode. and like the post says, properties takes me back to the screen as if i selected desktop properties from the dropdown menu you see in picture 1 which only allows me to change the resolution and color scheme.

the wizard only allows me to convert video file extension from what i can tell.

edit: HEY I finally got it. apparently the driver installer that i originally downloaded from AMD didn't include the newest catalyst control center??? i went back and verified that what I have is the 11.3 version but mine was only 70mb instead of 86mb so I downloaded that one and now CCC gives me completely different looking options. There is even a search bar where i could type underscan and come up with exactly what i needed so now everything is good.

at least this whole thing was SUPER simple.....Confused

Pfftt, it's a lot easier now to do this. Back when I had to setup my system, HTPC was a very new concept, you would have to download some third party software and and played around with the vertical and horizontal scan rate till you get the picture to fit. And even then the process was extremely complicated and doesn't always work. I just gave up and use a VGA cable Smilie
