Potential verizon wireless data plan promo for existing customers (must call, can't tell in advance)
I had no idea this existed. It might be worth others calling....
Initially, I called *611 from my phone and selected option 4 and said I wanted to change my plan.
For family share, must be on at least 1400 min + unlimited txt plan to qualify for $9.99 off data/month.
For single lines, you must be on at least the 450 min + unlimited txt plan ($60/month). If you have an employee discount, it will still apply to the phone part of the plan, but will not apply to the data plan. For example, someone with the 450 min + unlim text plan with a 18% discount will pay $60 * 0.82 = $49.20 for the minutes and $9.99 for the data, for a total of $59.19.
This will extend your contract for phones that have less than 12 months. This is a 12 month promo (order 4/19/11 finish 4/19/12)
This will only extend your contract for 1 year if you have less than 12 months left on it.
It does not adjust your upgrade date at all (I made sure to ask).
Ask to speak to the Loyalty Department right away as they are the ones that do the promo. Ask for the "One year $9.99 data discount promo that is in response to the Sprint Unlimited Plan." They will know of what you speak. ==> It seems that some people are having issues when mentioning the "Loyalty Department" and the CSR's are avoiding these two words as well. You may want to try mentioning the "Talk & Text Data Plan Promotion" because that's what the CSR's called it.
This is for Talk n Text Plans. If your on another plan or older plan ask what the benefits would be by switching to the Talk n Text plans

Rep: Umm... how did you hear about this...?
Me: A buddy of mine told me about this. He mentioned that he was able to get $9.99 off his data plan for being a loyal customer.
Rep: ... Let me take a look at your account to see if this is possible. Can you hold?
<keeps me on hold for a couple of minutes>
Rep: It looks like you do qualify. Let me try to add this promotion to your account.
<tries to do it and fails>
Rep: Sorry, it seems like I'm not able to add this promotion to your account. Let me try to get you to another department
<specifically said "another department" and seemed like she wanted to avoid saying "Loyalty Department">
Rep2: I believe you are trying to participate int he Talk & Text Data Plan promotion?
Rep2: Let me go ahead and add this to your plan. It looks like you only have one line that qualifies for this plan (because only one line currently has data plan).
<proceeds to add plan and explain how program works - that my 20% corporate discount won't apply to the data plan and this $9.99 off will apply instead - net savings of $6/month; also mentions 1 year contract extension>
Rep2: Also, if you're ever interested in upgrading any of your other lines to smart phones with a data plan, give us a call and we can apply this discount to your other lines with data as well.
---Some of this is inaccurate. The $9.99 discount off the $29.99 data plan is a targeted promotion. Only certain customers can get this with a 1 yr agreement, but it is worth inquiring about. There is no loyalty department. You'll be speaking with Customer Care or Technical Support. THIS PARAGRAPH IS WRONG. THERE IS A LOYALTY DEPARTMENT! Wrong again. Ask me how I know. There is no Loyalty Department. Also there is no Warranty Department.

I just called and got it. Let me give a quick run down of what I did.
1. I called *611 and spoke with Charlene. Told her I heard about the talk, text & data discount promotion and wanted to see if I qualified for it. She had me wait while she checked. She came back and said I did qualify (my current plan is the NATIONWIDE TALK & TEXT FS 1400 min w/unlimited data) and she would have to transfer me to the department that would make the adjustment to my account. I specifically asked "what department is that?". She said "the Loyalty Group".
2 I get transferred to some woman who does not give a name. She says she understands I am trying to get the discount and i say yes but i have a few questions first. My first question was "since I have more than 12 months left on my contract, would this EXTEND my contract an additional 12 months or would it extend 12 months from today and still be less than my original contract date?". She said it would not extend my contract past my original contract date since it was more than 12 months. Second question was, "will this effect my data plan and make it go into the tiered data when this promotion falls off". Her answer was ,"NO, since you are already at the 29.99 unlimited plan, you will be grandfathered in".
promotion applied. and they applied it to both accounts even though I have a 20% discount already.
