"Cons: Can not use the "free" Traffic Update feature, since it requires accepting adware "coupons." If you reject the nagging adware, you can't use the traffic feature."
Continuous nagging for my $140? Meh!..
I agree - ruins it for me
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." John Stuart Mill MMORPG [cityofgamers.net]
SWTOR is my current vice
I bought the 1490LMT about a year ago, and just about a month ago, the ads got much worse. Ads used to pop up just on occasion. Now, as soon as you stop, you have an ad plastered over the map. It's really annoying, because usually when you stop at a red light, you finally get a chance to look at the map and get an idea what you're going to do next, but now, theres a blue banner on the map. Very annoying. And the worse thing is, rather than showing you the ad for the place, it just shows you the location. So when it says "Coupon for Hotel xxx", when you click on the banner, you don't get a coupon, it just shows you all the hotels of the xxx chain. That surely doesn't want to make me go there...
What the hell kind of a "feature" is that if it potentially risks an accident? Or does it only pop up if you're stopped somewhere (still stinks)
The ads only pop up when you're stopped, then go away once you hit about 5 to 10 mph. I have never found them particularly distracting at all. However, the few times I have clicked on the banner, there isn't any coupon, only a list of all of the hotels, or restaurants in the area so I'm not sure what the real value is.
The traffice feature is nice if you travel around the city all day, if you click on the icon, it will take you to another page that shows where the delay is taking place, you can then choose to detour, and possibly avoid the delay. My experience with this has been hit or miss, once I was able to avoid a HUGE backup, another, there wasn't any backup at all.
