Cheap Android Tablet to Purchase in Bulk with "Open Bootloader"

DeSquared 66 27 May 4, 2011 at 06:35 AM More TigerDirect Deals
Hey SD community-

I'm looking to buy about 150 tablets/slates for a conference I'm hosting for work. My price point is $150. As I work in health care, the kinds of gifts we give out need to be certainly below $200 due to Federal law.

Since it is a larger order, anyone know of a distributer where I could get a deal on buying quantity??

I want to be able to pre-load some media on the tablets to serve as agendas, schedules, presentation viewers, welcome media, maps, etc. i think I want an "open bootloader," but I really don't know what I'm talking about here....

I imagine Android 2.x would be the OS of choice, but am willing to throw that up for discussion. I have an IT department and media production department at my disposal to take care of the software implementation.

This is where it gets a little more subjective--I do not want a name that is totally synonymous with CHEAP (for instance Coby), and I would prefer it looks polished. Here is what I've found so far:

Archos 7 Home $149

Velocity Micro Cruz T130 7" $179

Velocity Micro Cruz Reader R101

http://www.amazon.com/Velocity-Mi...pd_cp_pc_1

Next 2 Tablet

http://www.amazon.com/NextBook-Ne...cr_pr_pb_t

Any thoughts, experiences or advice?? Any other items I should be looking at?

Thanks in advance!!

Eh, I'd say if you want them to be actually useful then Android 3.x would be a minimum, but that'll almost certainly blow your price point.

http://www.woot.com has an interesting offer on a tablet today that's within your price range.

Thanks Jeffbx--I'm leaning towards the Velocity Micro Cruz. I found it on NewEgg here:

I might see if the company can cut me a better deal directly. I think if i can load up all of the things I need on a SD card then link to the agenda, maps, presentations, video welcome, etc on the tablet's desktop. I'm still looking for a better deal. I have until October as a hard stop to get these as the event is in November

Also, I want to know how quality the build is on these things. How cheap do they feel?

Don't know how reputable the seller is, but for a McTablet: http://www.buyincoins.com/details...-3429.html

OK, at least stick with a brand you've heard of - please don't dump money on a Chinese knockoff because of the low cost. You'd end up being less frustrated by just putting your money through a paper shredder.

Second, if you have until October, don't even bother looking until September at the earliest. There are a ridiculous number of tablets being rolled out right now & the price point is dropping steadily. What you end up buying hopefully isn't even on the market yet.
