Maximizing full potential of credit card ?

Hello!

So we have a citicard preferred rewards ( or whatever it is now). We have had it for about 7 years. It is our only card, and we pay it off in full every month. I have been able to get a $100 GC about every other month( used to be better).

Here is my BIG question: I am trying to figure a way to REALLY maximize my rewards. We are getting ready to start building a garage and I should be able to charge around 30,000 within a year ( and pay off as we go each month). I am hoping to earn maybe a free vacation or cruise for the family. I could probably charge 40,000 if needed.

We have been saving, so paying off is no problem.

Is this possible? Right now only 1 pt per $ so not sure how many miles that would even earn if I went that route?

Any super suggestions?

We could likely get any card...super credit. I am just bent on getting the most bang...I am very disciplined in the way we charge/pay.
