Brother HL 2170W "Toner" light stays on

adnan 327 May 4, 2011 at 04:19 PM
I purchased the TN360 cartridge from Meritline and printed about 200 pages and the Toner light started to flash and still kept on printing. About 150 pages later, it is now a Steady "Toner" light and does not let me print. I can see the Cartridge is about 75% full. I have tried to reset the Page count by pressing the Button 2 and 7 times but to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You.

I have this printer, but am still using the starter cartridge, so not sure how reliable my info can be. Did you try putting black electrical tape over the pin-hole sensor on the cartridge? I hear that bypasses the sensor and lets you continue printing with the current toner.

Yes, I had done that with the Starter cartridge and was able to print about 500 more pages. Then eventually ran out of the toner and bought the TN360 from Meritline. Printing was pretty Dark when it printed the last page just a while ago and I can see the Cartridge has a "lot" of Toner left. I read somewhere that the Printer has a "Page" count which needs to be reset once it reaches a certain point. I have not been able to get that done like opening the front cover then turning it off. Then turning it on while keeping the big button pressed and then release and press it 2 times and then again 7 times.

Also, I know it has to do with the Printer itself in resetting it's page count somehow. I just took the Starter Toner from my friends printer which is printing just fine and put it in my printer but the "Toner" light came on and stays "Steady" and doesn't let me print.

I opened it up and played with the Gears and turned it a little. "Toner" light is gone but almost nothing prints .. just a little towards the top of the page.

Update: Turned the Gear a bit more and now it prints. Prints darker and clearer than ever! LoL

I have the same problem (toner light stays on and does not let me print). Could you give more details on how to turn the gear?

Is this an OEM toner cartridge or third party?

I see this a lot at my job and honestly it could be the toner cartridge. I'd spend a little more and get an original Brother toner cartridge and see if it works or does no better.

As I stated, I "was" able to shift the gear a little more and then it started to work really good. Ended up doing about 1800 pages and then replaced with the same one and going great at about 800 pages.

Ahhh that was posted before the Update with your current status.

But I wouldn't know that because....is your PC time incorrect? The thread shows that it started on 5/4/2011.
