I have become privy to some interesting information about the price that Walgreens pays for their items.

It is coded right on their shelf tags in letter format.

I imagine that this is their standard invoice cost for items. it does not take into account when they get 'Scan Downs', credit from vendors for sale prices, kick back incentive credits for sales, nor when they order an extra ton of something to get the next level price breaks.... So it may actually be slightly inflated, or not, but for what it's worth, here it is. (I also searched and didn't find it, so if this is already out there, please flame away... I can take it!Wink)

Right on the white & yellow regular shelf tag, near the lower right corner is a set of capital letters. Each of those letter is assigned a certain number value, or digit, for all of walgreens stores.

The decimal point is always two spots from the right.

Those letters and digit assignments are below.

B=1
R=2
U=3
S=4
H=5

C=6
L=7
E=8
A=9
N=0

Formatted horizontal looks like

B R U S H C L E A N
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0

Examples:
letter is corner of tag are: BRUH = 12.35
UAN = 3.90
HCB = 5.61

That is all I have and I don't know if it is usefull in any way, but there it is

Ooo what manager shared this with ya Smilie I think I posted this about a year ago in a thread but no one seemed to care lol.

You're correct on your info though, it's the item cost... before any kind of promotion. Some items have some pretty ridiculous markups... look at face masks! I think they cost about a buck and a half for the store but retail 4.99 lol.

Walgreens 3/20-3/26 RR calculator to help with planning scenarios. (Excel Spreadsheet)

Download Spreadsheet [megaupload.com]

Google Docs [google.com] - In the "coupon used", you use the following;
1 = YES, or leave it blank for NO.

^ Outdated... but you can change the names and $ for your own usage and it still works.

A long long time ago in CA when CVS was really Long's Drugs, they had a similar system only it was based on the word CHARLESTON. If you got to buy at cost + 10% like the employees did, it was helpful; otherwise, seeing the markup on items was just irritating!

Albertsons used to use CHARLESTON about 25 years ago.......do not know if they still do?
