Thread Details

I am a Comcast existing customer in the Bay Area, CA. I called Comcast yesterday, and was offered the following:

Digital Starter $29.99/month with 2-year contract, after that goes back up to regular price of $64.95, or
Digital Starter $34.99/month x 6 months with no contract

I chose the former. Not really hot, but I was paying $24.95 for Digital Economy, I don't mind the contract, the channels on Digital Starter are enough for me, and I've been snubbed in the past several months every time I call to try to get a promo.

But there is a catch ,check with them if HD is free, they charge 10bucks extra for HD.

Please provide more info. What is this "contract" ? What happens if you decide that you do not need the digital starter package in less than two years ? Is there a penalty ? Is the HD box rental per month extra ? Thanks

I called to try to get this, and the woman said it's a 2yr contract, at $29.99/mo for the 1st year, then $47.99 the 2nd year! So on average it's $39/mo for 2 yrs. If you cancel or downgrade the service, there's a $150 early termination fee. JABU, is that what you got? The woman said there's no $29.99/mo for a full 2 years, and that you should have gotten the contract in the mail that states the terms.

I have trouble thinking you can't do better than this. I wouldn't touch a 2-year contract unless you're getting some free equipment (think: cellphones).

Hi guys, sorry for the delayed response. These were the terms that were stated to me (this was in early May of this year):

$29.99 locked in for 2 years, $64.99 after that
ETF - $75 if cancelled within 1st 6 months, then prorated if cancelled after that

I didn't receive any terms in the mail. I should say, though, that in the past I have asked comcast for deals/promos that I read about on SD, and they also fed me the same line about it never existing. Case in point is the free HBO x 2 years promo posted elsewhere on this site that I was snubbed for today. I'l give them a call tomorrow to confirm these terms and post what I find. Who knows, maybe I got screwed.

OK, I tried this last night because I had just found out that my Digital Starter package is due to increase from 29.99 to 64.99 next month! (do people really pay that much to watch TV?) -- Anyways, the best they could do was 29.99 for 1st 6 mos, then 47.99 next 6 mos, then 64.99 thereafter. I said no way.. He told me about the 29.95 Digital Economy Package & I signed up for that because it seems like a decent deal (never heard of it before) & there is no contract at at all, so I can just stick with it until a better deal comes along.. it includes: A&E, AMC, Animal Planet, BET, Cartoon Network, CNN, Comedy Central, Discovery, Disney, E!, Food Network, Fox News, Nickelodeon, Lifetime, Spike TV, USA, Weather Channel.

I may be back on the chat begging for a deal in a couple days because my kids want their MTV - they already miss those Rob Dyrdeck shows, lol Big Grin

Where are you located? I asked about Digital Economy in Atlanta and NONE of those channels were included.. but maybe I should call again?

I'm assuming that 29.95 doesn't include HD?

I tried this deal. Had to pay an extra $7 a month for a hd box. I was able to get Directv with NFL Sunday ticket and a $180 Costco gift card for $29.99 a month.

I am in California - Central Valley. You should try the online chat - that's where I always have the best luck, and I had a hard time finding it yesterday until I just googled "comcast online chat" but I think this is the correct one:
www.comcastsupport.com/chatentry/

And no, it doesn't include HD, but that is OK with me.. good luck Smilie

oh that sounds like an awesome deal Cool I have tried satellite before but the extra boxes required for the kids's (3) rooms always kills the deal (with Comcast we can just have basic in their rooms).

With multi boxes comcast is cool since you get 2 free basic cable boxes free. we only have 1 tv and I wouldn't even have a tv if it wasn't for my gf.

Thank you, I'll try that. So you get SD channels but do you get OnDemand?

I wonder if I can add HD to it (for extra)?

Ugg actually I just found out that it does not include on demand (they didn't tell me that last night).. Bummer - we use On Demand a lot. So now I'm on hold for a chat with customer service again.. gonna try for that original deal again.. stay tuned, lol Embarrassment
..plus another thing - when you have this economy package it can't be combined with anything else (like the free HBO and Showtime packages that I get a lot from asking online chatFrown )

UPDATE:
The best I could get was 12 months Digital Starter 29.99 (etf of $150! - but that's ok with me - I know I am not cancelling in the next yr), plus he gave me 6 mos free HBO (after I asked him if I can have a free premium channel). So that's good enough for me Smilie .. good luck! .. by the way - first I clicked for online chat - I think it was "changes to account" or "questions about account" option, then when that csr answered I asked to be transferred to the sales/retention dept.
