Deal Details

Piggybacking off last year's Samsung thread, I'd like to generate a wiki for the 3 major plasma brands for 2011. Most of the manufacturers place restrictions on pricing and don't allow online retailers to show prices until final checkout. This thread will allow us to weed through those restrictions and find the best current prices.

I am much more informed with pricing on the higher end models for all 3 manufacturers, but admittedly, I could use some help on the lower end.

Any help keeping the wiki current is appreciated. I will do my best with what I have already documented on some of these models, but again, I do not have info on every model.

US Appliance has made some nice price cuts on a few Samsung's this morning:

51D550 - Now $899 shipped
59D550 - Now $1549 shipped
64D8000 - Now $2999 shipped - great price on flagship plasma and probably worthy of its own SD thread.

For people unfamiliar with US Appliance, they offer free 30 day returns, 110% 30 day price match guarantee, and free white glove delivery. This is hard to beat.
Do you know if there are any rebates on glasses with the Samsung?

Meaning do they come with a set purchased from US Appliance? Not sure if this is what you're asking, but unless it's specified on the product page, the answer is most likely no.

Having said this, I would keep your receipt and contact Samsung if no glasses/voucher were/was included.

I also know Samsung and authorized retailers are expected to get aggressive with bundle promo's starting on 5/29. Might be worth waiting 11 days before pulling the trigger.

Good advice on both. I emailed US Appliance and I will post response. Samsung chat said they have a promo for the free glasses but it is handled by the retailer so basically contact the retailer.

Anybody that purchases a 3d tv going forward should always inquire with the retailer about free glasses - you don't want them to hold them back from you if you are entitled to them.

But though I am anxious to pull the trigger, its great advice to wait til Memorial Day or later at this point.

Recently got the P50GT25 from US Appliance, great service, no problems so far. I'm looking around for another 3D plasma. The Samsung PN51D550 caught my eye at 899. I'm considering it, but I think waiting for a bundle would be best. Any thoughts?

For those not into 3D, the LG 60" 1080p (IIRC, it was the 550 model) at $1099 was the deal of the year. Super thin, thin bezel, no tax and free shipping. Fry's had it, and Amazon matched it. My sister ordered one, and they are floored by the picture quality. They already knew how good plasma pic quality was since they own a 50" 720p Panasonic. And yes, I'm jealous. They keep telling me the set is a giant.

I have also been notified that the megamind kit will start being included on the D8000 59 & 64 models starting 5/29.

I have decided that is the route Im going, just have to decide on the 51 or 59" model. I will wait for memorial day sales before jumping on a deal.

Look for a 58"+ 3D set if I can find a good deal so this thread is perfect. Thanks OP!

PN51D550 for $899 seems awesome... Is it really going to be worth waiting 10 days? Even if the bundle includes glasses, does anyone think it will be as low as $899? Glasses keep getting cheaper, most of the movies in the bundles are OK at best.

Really having a tough time not pulling the trigger. Any informed responses will be appreciated.

There's no telling if the kit will be included with all Samsung models on the 29th. However, Samsung has already addressed the lack of clarity from their free glasses press release, and I expect them to make right on their promise. Whether it's up to Samsung or the retailer, it doesn't really matter. Samsung has already promised its customers 2 free pairs of glasses with every 3D TV. I imagine there would be serious repercussions if they reneged their word.

That said, if you choose to order from US Appliance today, it might take some time before you eventually receive your glasses. You basically have 3 options:

1. Order from US Appliance today and get the glasses later
2. Wait 10 days to see if the Megamind kit will be included with your order (I seriously doubt the price will change based on trends)
3. Order from Buydig today and get the 2 glasses and a few HDMI cables for $32 dollars more
