Piggybacking off last year's Samsung thread, I'd like to generate a wiki for the 3 major plasma brands for 2011. Most of the manufacturers place restrictions on pricing and don't allow online retailers to show prices until final checkout. This thread will allow us to weed through those restrictions and find the best current prices.

I am much more informed with pricing on the higher end models for all 3 manufacturers, but admittedly, I could use some help on the lower end.

Any help keeping the wiki current is appreciated. I will do my best with what I have already documented on some of these models, but again, I do not have info on every model.

When I go to the Panasonic EPP site I see free shipping banner I attached to this post.: Not sure where you get $65.

True. With 20% Amazon is better. However I only have one Kindle code. I need two televisions. So I will use the Kindle code for the more expensive tv. Thus the P50s30 is my cheaper purchase which I will not be using a Kindle code for.
add to cart and you will see the shipping cost

After adding to cart and entering zip code for shipping I see:
Standard Threshold Delivery - FREE
Full Service White Glove - $175.00

And then at checkout I see when it wants my credit card:
Merchandise: $824.96
Estimated Shipping: FREE
Tax: $73.22

Estimated Order Total: $898.18

Perhaps you are not logged in.

Keep in mind I have to pay sales tax at Amazon since delivery address is in NY though I can buy it from Paul's TV through Amazon for $869 and not pay tax - so not sure if that is a better route... a little cheaper than direct from EPP ($30)

I'm trying to purchase the 59D6500 from Amazon; however, one of the three components in the promotion (the BluRay player) is only available through an Amazon merchant, so I can't put all three in the cart without being charged for the player (including shipping). How do I get around this?

The BluRay player is in stock from Amazon when I look at it. Take a look at this page to make sure you are choosing the correct player: Samsung Package Promo [amazon.com]

I think I have it narrowed down to the Samsung PN59D6500 bundle or the Panasonic TC-P60ST30 bundle. My original price point was around $1500, but these two are close enough. The Panasonic is only about $100 more than the Samsung.

The Samsung line somewhat scares me just because of some of the issues posted on the web. I know Panasonics have their share as well, but it seems like not as much with the ST line. That may be due to fewer videophiles buying that line (going instead with the GT or VT line) and noticing issues here and there (like the fluctuating brightness on the GT line).

I have kids so the Samsung kit is appealing with more movies. I'll probably need to buy 1 or 2 more glasses and it appears Samsung glasses are less expensive.

Just looking for some opinions on these two models and how they compare.

EDIT...I see the 60ST30 is now $1730 so these two models are basically the same price now.

Wow - this thread has been sleeping today. I am use to getting updates hourly on this thread Smilie

Just to point out for those lucky enough to have a Frys nearby - the LG 55LW5600 with passive 3D deal is back for $1199 B&M only. (includes 8 pairs of glasses) I know its a LED but its a super deal so wanted to point it out here. I wonder how that set compares to the plasmas .... $1660 shipped from Amazon

I had a chance to see the
Samsung pn59D6500 And the
Panasonic Viera tcp60 gt30. Side by side at best buy.
In my opinion both had awesome pictures I am sure both are pretty comparable with the panny holding an edge in quality and higher price
However the bezel on the panny is just to weird big, shiny and awkward looking
The bezel on the Samsung is tight .The brushed metal is very nice
I came home called us appliance made sure the Samsung was in stock and ordered it with the megamind kit and blue ray player for $1679
Maybe not the greatest saving ever but BB wanted $1799 plus $179 tax and no kit or goodies. I am psyched ands want to thank everyone for all their help .....ok now what do I obsess on

so you picked nice outside appearance over video quality? a nice car body would sell over the good engine?

Well, as he saw it the Samsung had significantly better appearance, while the Panny had only slightly better PQ.

Quite frankly, I totally agree on the looks part. Panasonic needs to step their game up on aesthetics. I still chose a panny, but make no mistake I chose panasonic in spite of it's looks. Many can't get past it, and it's not totally unreasonable.

The d6500 has the same panel as the flagship d7000/8000 w/o the black filter. The st/gt have the same panel, but not the same as the flagship vt. The pq in the d6500 is similar to the higher end models sans the black lvl. Since the d7000/8000 are in the running for best plasma vs the vt, the d6500 is a very good choice.
