Deal Details

Piggybacking off last year's Samsung thread, I'd like to generate a wiki for the 3 major plasma brands for 2011. Most of the manufacturers place restrictions on pricing and don't allow online retailers to show prices until final checkout. This thread will allow us to weed through those restrictions and find the best current prices.

I am much more informed with pricing on the higher end models for all 3 manufacturers, but admittedly, I could use some help on the lower end.

Any help keeping the wiki current is appreciated. I will do my best with what I have already documented on some of these models, but again, I do not have info on every model.

Whelp, there goes my Memorial Day weekend plans. Can't invite the family over because Pilot Services, the company who delivers for US Appliances, delivered a DAMAGED television set. Cracked in THREE places.

Where do I begin with Pilot?

1.) It says on the actual invoice: "Home Delivery Electronics - 2 MAN" and yet only ONE guy delivered it, and struggled with it too. The f***ing TV wasn't secured in the truck, neither!

2.) White Glove Delivery: The delivery guy didn't want to OPEN the box. Said it wasn't his job, bla bla. When he finally decided to at least get it out of the box (took convincing on my part), that's when I discovered the cracks.

3.) Receipt: Delivery guy didn't want me to have my copy of the invoice. Said "You don't need it" and proceeded to try to grab the f**king receipt from me! I kept it.

This is BS! I'm giving U.S. Appliances one more shot because they're $100 cheaper than the other competitors plus the White Glove delivery, but my weekend is f***ed because of those slimballs at Pilot.
That wasn't white glove delivery no matter what you try to call it... lol.

I'm not completely exonerating U.S. Appliances, either. For all I know, you could have sent me a damaged television set (I mean, really - cracked in three places???), since the box itself looked undamaged.

Great, looking forward to bringing the family together around my f***ing laptop this holiday weekend.
As much as I like a good conspiracy theory, our warehouse staff takes care in examining and packing orders prior to leaving our warehouse.

Why would we knowingly send you a damaged unit and lose money?

Also, if the damage was concealed as you point out, how would we knew it existed? We would have to X-Ray every TV before shipping!

Thanks.

I never accused you of knowingly sending me a damaged product, but I'm not willing to discount the possibility of U.S. Appliances sending me a damaged product nevertheless, with Pilot just delivering your mess.

I don't know which party is truly to blame, but if my second order comes with any issues, I'm not dealing with your company or Pilot in the future.

Yes, it's quite possible since all these TVs travel overseas and then by carrier to each retailer. There's no way to completely prevent shipping damage.

Regardless of whose to blame, we're replacing your TV at no cost to you.

Thanks for your business and sorry for the inconvenience.

I got home and opened up a plasma from Best Buy that the screen was entirely cracked. TV Retailers do not generally open the box and inspect each tv before shipping. When you get your tv it is generally sealed new. I sympathize with you but these things happen and it doesnt sound like US Appliance fault provided they try to make ti right. Hopefully your new shipment will be without issue. The part about one guy delivery, who argued about taking it out of the box - that part I agree with you on and you have a right to be perturbed about that.

The timing on this is just awful. I called and asked for my refund. I'm not going to wait another week for my TV while a company is holding my $$$ interest free and offering no compensation for these sort of inconveniences, at least Best Buy or Target, in the past, has thrown in a little gift card or extra discount for the trouble. Besides, if it was Pilot's fault after all for poor shipping, who's to say they won't cause another issue considering their shady shipping practices and my recent experience with one of their f***ked up delivery personnel?

I'm going to try to grab a TV from a local retailer during the holiday sales and hopefully salvage my weekend plans with the family.

I have a chance to pick up this Plasma from Panny's EPP for $813 including delivery and tax. Does anyone or everyone think this is a good deal? I think it's hot, but input from you people would help push me one way or the other. I'm so wishy-washy lol
yes, it's a great price...however Panasonic EPP site is showing two different prices for me.

$759.49 + tax
$774.96 + tax (in cart)
not a big difference but $15 is $15.

what prices are you seeing?

I get $759.49 + tax

An estimated order total $759.49

Odd, but when I proceed to checkout it stays $774.96. I think I'll call before I order. The first time I checked out, the price stayed to same $759.49 throughout the process.
Panasonic seems to like to play games with their EPP customers.

Settle down.

You are making a mountain out of a molehill.

I mean I had a guy buy my Panasonic Plasma from me and put it in his truck after we packed it back in the box. Then him and his buddy drove back home down the interstate and tv fell out the back. Buh Bye $1200.

This is nothing.

Go to a Sports bar or movie theatre if you need some tube during the weekend.

I do think its a good deal however I do not think it is a hot deal as members of this forum should be looking for. The price beats Amazon by $100 however I feel that come Memorial Day and the first weeks of June you will be able to get a 3D plasma for this price with glasses, etc. 1080p non-3D deals will be even cheaper, < $700.

Clipped an ad today for Kiss Electronics, Samsung 3D Plasma for Memorial Day weekend $498. Its 720p thouigh. Not sure if it is eligible for the Sammy rebate on glasses b/c I think its 2010 model and they prob charge shipping. Model is PN50C490
Edit: Scratch that - its factory recertified..... just noticed the small logo.... bait ads...

An educated guess through process of elimination:

- Only 3 major name brands make plasmas
- Only 2 of those 3 make 50" models
- No mention of 1080p (meaning it's 720p)
- No mention of 3D
- 3,000,000 contrast ratio is the exact same ratio LG claims for its 50PT350

Add: the only other possibility is the Panasonic X3, but they claim a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio
