The Seagate 3TB external drive is often $120-150 (it was even $105 from Newegg once, which is when I picked it up). It works well and I have no complaints. I did take the drive out of it's OEM case to put it in a Firewire 800 enclosure though.
as someone who has thousands of drives in current production use in everything from laptops to servers, i dont care for any one brand over another in most cases.
they all have their weaknesses.
they all fail.
however i've never been a fan of WD's green drives as they simply have too many issues that limit their use.
I prefer drives that can be run in both single and RAID array form without issues.
the hitachi provides that, and it's also 20% cheaper.
