Manually restoring iPhone messages and contacts
My iPhone 2G randomly died and would not start up (it would keep blacking out halfway through the boot cycle). I put it into DFU mode and restored, jailbroke it, and unlocked it. Since this was kind of abrupt, I never got a chance to formally back up my messages and contacts. Furthermore, whenever I plug my iPhone into the computer, it for some reason decides not to show up in iTunes. Luckily, I still had an old backup from February that I was able to pull the sms.db and AddressBook.db files from. Copying the address book over worked okay (or so it seems), but when I copied over the sms.db to the fresh iPhone, attempting to send a message would cause the Message app to crash and all incoming messages never made it to my inbox. I made sure that the permissions matched, from the SMS folder to the sms.db inside the SMS folder.Has anyone else had this same problem and was able to fix it? |
