not a bad price. I got this for 650 (though only with 4GB of ram) from the fry's deal and its a solid laptop but nothing special like the high end lenovo laptops.

What is the big difference between the idea pad and think pad(besides price)? Specifically the Y460p and the t-420.

Mostly build quality, from my understanding. The ThinkPads are pristine beautiful machines meant to stand up to the rigors of business life, while the IdeaPads are your "normal" consumer laptops.

To be honest, though, you can spec the IdeaPads a LOT higher for a lot less. Most of the ThinkPads max their video cards at the 4200m, whereas the IdeaPads go up to the 6550m (a huge difference, if you're doing gaming or graphics work). There are some pretty good reviews of the IdeaPad online at YouTube, where they do a pretty good job of discussing the pros and cons. Mostly people seem to think the IdeaPad is overall very nice, with the main (small) complaints being a low viewing angle on the screen, and a slightly flimsy keyboard. Hope that helps. (I personally am a ThinkPad fanatic, but I am purchasing one of the y460p models in this sale, because the ThinkPads are just too damned expensive for far inferior specs.)

Thanks I have been playing around with the numbers for the last few weeks. I have it narrowed down between a Lenovo and HP(Definately leaning towards Lenovo). My specs are: i5(sandy), 4gb(or more), 500-7200 hd, 14", minimum Intel hd3000.

I am leaning towards these

PS, do you think it is neccessary to get 1080p on a 14" screen?

Problem with the HP is it's at frys and Don't know if it is an instore only deal. Or is 1366x768 enough?

I just hate the touch-pad so much , i wouldn't take it even if free. So much force required to click on bloody single piece touchpad plate left click.

100% agreed! I have one of the dv6tse models from one of their many sales over the last year, and I am looking at an IdeaPad to replace it--a large part of the reason is that horrid touch pad. Far and away the worst touch pad I have ever used. I don't know how that kind of crap gets through QA... (I guess it's because they just really don't care.)

Really tempted by the $799 Sandy Bridge Lenovo... but the lack of USB 3 ports is a real downer. The external SATA sort of makes up for that... but I expect future USB 3 devices will be of interest.

What do you think about their essentials line? I am tempted on their g470 model or that MacBook air clone model
