for the same price of the dell with coupon and no extra warranty the hp is the same price but with a 4 yr warranty. any thoughts? the hp does not have esata, which leads me to believe they are using the defective chips.
I ordered and received this Dell XPS 17 laptop earlier this month. This laptop has the matte finish (not glossy). The part that bugged me was it had a very poor viewing angle. A slight shift away from straight on view will yield a darkish display at the farside corners. The text was not very sharp either. This has nothing to do with the screen being a matte finish, but rather it's just a very cheap screen even though it's at 1080p (FHD). My work 24" monitor also has a matte finish but the image quality is magnificent. The XPS line is suppose to be a high end home computer system, but the display for this 17" does not live up to it. I even called Dell support to see if there was some setting I could adjust, but nothing helped. I returned the laptop and got the 15" instead which has the R+GB LED screen. It has the glossy finish, but it also have a wider viewing angle (according to the Help Me Choose screen during the custom build). The XPS 17 3D is also suppose to have a better screen than the regular 17".
