Anything 1TB and above with a USB 2.0 interface is painfully slow.
That would depend upon what you were doing. I use my external strictly for backup @ 2 AM and I really don't care is it finishes in 2 or 20 minutes (or two hours for that matter) ... so long as it does finish, error free and does not fail. If you were using one of these large drives for other than data archive, yes, USB 2.0 is not the way to go.
