Char-Broil 2-Burner Gas Grill $59 at Homedepot B&M only

Hmmm.. they had something like that at Big Lots during memorial day weekend but I think it was $99. This doesn't seem like a bad deal because it looks nearly identical. I might have to check out home depot on the way home. I want to buy a Weber but I'm on a seriously budget right now so something like this would be great even if it only last a year.

Is gas considered an upgrade from charcoal? I'm looking to get my first grill since we just got a deck built and seeing that charcoal is usually better to go with and cheaper too. I guess its more authenic BBQing maybe? Gas is supposed to be quicker but are there any other advantages?

The big one would be being able to adjust the temp, hard to do with a charcoal, lets you grill a lot of different things. also charcoal sometimes puts off odd fumes / taste on whatever your cooking.

I know for me personally I live in an apartment and I don't want to piss my neighbors off with tons of smoke from the charcoal. I live by the beach so we all usually have our windows open and we are very close to each other in proximity.

I think the pros to gas are cleanliness and convenience. You also have more control over the cooking temperature.

With a charcoal grill you have to light the coals, smoke goes all over the place, you have to deal with ash after the fact and it can be hard to get the temperature you want for the type of food you are cooking especially if you are cooking multiple items.

For me it is...I get sick of getting the charcoal ready, waiting for it to cool and then dumping the ashes and then lugging it back for storage. At this point I prefer quick setup and cooking. I will still use my Weber charcoal when I have people over but when I need something quick I like to go to the gas.

Sounds like a gas grill maybe better to go with then for a starter. And I'm in a townhouse so charcoal burning may annoy people there also. I'll go check this grill out and see if its available. Thanks!

Not a bad deal on a tight budget...get on CL for a used propane tank ($15-20)

1) Don't use starter fluid invest in a charcoal chimney
2) Let Charcoal briquettes impart a strange taste if you don't let it ash over all the way
3) No chemicals if you use a good lump coal brand - Please no Cowboy Lump
4) Yes harder to control temp with charcoal, but if you use indirect cooking with charcoal then no problem.

If you can't tell, I use charcoal and converted from propane this year. Finally decided to use that Weber 18.5 kettle and now I have a 1994 Performer, and a 1997 22.5 old style kettle.

Charcoal is the way to go if you want your food to have that bbq flavor.

Gas is the way to go if you want it fast and quick.

With my Performer, I can get my coals up to temperature and ready to go in about 10-15 minutes. With propane you still need to heat the grill up which take about 10 minutes.

A Weber Kettle can last for 10+ years hard to do with any propane grill without replacement starters and burners, propane lines, etc.

But with a gas to turn a few dials and hit a switch and walk away.

Might want to just double check your by-laws, as a lot of homeowner associations prohibit propane grills. Just a FYI...

I have one of these and it is difficult to adjust the heat correctly. Sometimes end up burning food. My experience only. YMMV. Thinking about one of the Brinkmans on sale at Target....for 159 a four burner with side...
