I have been in the market to purchase a pair of SSD's. It seems this company has a high failure rate and BSOD.

Their RMA policy and level of service is substandard.

I am no fanboy of the other manufactures but see a trend via reading various blogs on this drive.

Sure the probability of actually getting a failed drive is 3% of so, but do you really realize how high of a failure rate this is?

I think the reference is to OCZ changing flash memory type affecting performance. At one point the company agreed to replace drives that are expected to have the biggest performance drop due to different memory chips and controller changes.

I personally dislike OCZ SSDs because you do not know in advance what you are buying. The company constantly changing memory chips and controllers so relying on reviews and users feedback is impossible. On the other hand pricing and customer service are good. If a drive has to be replaced it does not take much effort.

It is a decent deal for people who can tolerate possible problems and RMA process.

Dude it's a drive you don't like it don't buy it. There is never a 100% in life. If you want to look at the world from that perspective then you can never do or buy anything because there is no 100%. There will always be failures and mix ups.
Maybe you should look into getting the ideal form of a SSD from Plato. Then you'll have a perfect one.

OCZ is always very generous with warranty periods and imo has one of the best RMA programs in the industry. Sure it doesn't compare to some of the bigger companies but you have to understand the niche OCZ has always been trying to fill: enthusiasts that want the best of cutting edge tech on a budget. OCZ was the first company to bring us drives with Sandforce controllers and now they have come to be pretty much the standard for high performing SSDs in the industry (minor problems aside, my Vertex2 has been blazing fast for the last year and was a very good value when purchased)

Aren't the Vertex 3 also being recalled?
