These are refurbished rifles, and are all in excellent exterior condition. However, the bore (barrel) condition can vary quite a bit. For the most part, these are excellent and accurate shooters. Ammo is cheap and plentiful.
They do not make good rifles to use for hunting though, the safety is very crude, and hard to operate. Besides, while they may be cheap at the moment, these are WWII relics. Most collectors look down on people who alter their rifles..
Everything I've got from Class Arms have arrived in excellent condition, and when they aren't in good condition, usually its noted in the title
When I ordered their colt-m16/century-ar15 blend the lower had some unfinished spots and the handguard on the upper was cracked all they way around...
but in fairness to them, the day after i received it I called and send them some photos of the damage and they sent me a new handguard without asking for the old one back. I didn't bug them about the lower because I knew i was going to swap it out and put it on a cheap .22 plinker anyway. Besides, it doesn't take polymer mags (by century arms design i guess, no fault of classic) so it was of no use to me for .223 anyway
I've been tempted by these lately at $100 in a local store. Once you add the FFL, this is only an ok deal.
IF you can get them for $100 local, it's not always the case. Depends on what kind of gun shops you happen to have in your town. But you're right, for lots of folks in towns with decent sized shops this will be a warm deal at best.
A great deal for thsoe with a C&R license however, assuming shipping is fair.
