New PS3 model announced (CECH-3000B 320GB)

WOW, Great deal for those that have to carry their PS3 around with them...

Old: 4.3 Kg, New 2.6 Kg! [Although Amazon lists at 4.3KG and 7.05 lbs.....so....I am not sure anymore)

Size of the case is the exact same, so same form factor.

Can't find the old power consumption...but 200W is crazy high, isn't it?

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the the PS3 the least power hungry console; even before this new redesign? I thought I had read that somewhere.

According to the info I found on Wiki it was...but those numbers on Wiki were so far off from Sony's published numbers I didn't know what to think.

But according to one thing I read...It sounds like 200W is the MAX watts the PSU will put to the system.

The power supply on the "fat" model is capable of delivering approximately 380 W. The power supply was reduced to 250 watts in the 120 GB "Slim" model.

Right now the Xbox 360 S is 135W. The old 1st gen 360 started at 203W

Pretty sure the Wii is the most power efficient

Also, If it had PS2 BC, Sony would no doubt have mentioned this. I don't know where these rumors come from

If you read the Update on the PS2 rumor page, his translation was wrong. It states it is NOT compatible with PS2 software:

So in other words, this is just slightly more power efficient, and nothing really newsworthy. Sony should at least start putting new Wi-Fi components in there that support 802.11n

It's much less than a desktop PC.

In a home test...the Wii used about 1/10th of the power of the other two consoles in all in their near 1st Generation Form (2007 test).

PS3 actually took last.

Your first article was from 2007. A PS3 from 2007 is not the same as the PS3's of today. If you're using that to say desktop PC's, especially those for gaming, use less power at peak than 200 watts, you should consider a second opinion.

Your quote from the second article shows the Xbox 360 uses more power, as of Dec. 2010, and that's prior to the further reductions in this model.

I guess you answered your own concerns.

He said he posted the 2007 figures to compare the original models of each (i.e. before the PS3 slim and 360 S). The PS3 phat was a power hungry beast, so no surprises there.

HAHA, I am glad you added that line, because yes...my post was certainly just an FYI to those curious as to the benefits they would be getting out of this. I was looking into the numbers and wanted to post them for others curious.

I knew the one was 1st gen consoles (and said that) and used the second article to point out the consoles were basically tied with the latest 360S (PS3 had maybe a $0.75 savings per year, haha) so this will put them back into a secure 2nd place, but still about 1/5th of the way to Nintendo's numbers.

basically PS3 = Jason Day for those that watched the US Open.

but, none of the manufactures actually post consumption numbers so we would have to wait till someone got their hands on it to get those.
