Infocom [infocom-if.org] Offers Zork 1, 2, and 3 for PC and Mac for free. Have fun!

This does work in Windows 7 (at least I know the 32 bit version does)

After you unzip the file:

Launch _ZORK1.COM

This should open the MSDOS Window with Zork running

64-bit Operating Systems
Download DosBox Here [dosbox.com]
Once installed, run it and type
mount c: c:\ // Assuming you extracted zork to your c:\ drive
Now type
c: // Change to the c: mounted path
Now type
cd c:\path\to\zork // Where path\to\zork takes you to the directory where you extracted the game
Now type
zork1
Do the same for the other versions of the game.

You may alternatively mount the parent directory of the Zork games. For example, I do this: mount c: c:\games.

You want to run the batch file -- Zork1.bat/Zork2.bat/Zork3.bat

While these have been free for a long, long time, thumbs up for the best text-based adventures ever made.

I actually have a soft spot in my heart for Return to Zork, even though that game was broken.

These games really taught me how to use my imagination...they were like reading a good fantasy novel but you had control.

Now, where can I get a free download of Dr. J and Larry Bird Go One on One [wikipedia.org]:-)

Bah! Can't the devs re-port this game for 64-bit OSes?! Mad

JK: nod

Brings back old memories.

Why do people post freebies in the hot deals section when we have a freebies section?
