RETIRED: Thoughts on the TLC show

Does anyone know how much these couponers get paid to be on the show? I hope it is worth it. Rumor has it that they are going to be filming at a Walgreens in a couple of weeks in Chicago. Great - there goes the RR program and multiple transactions. Couldn't they just have left the drug stores alone?

According to Shuriken who contacted the show's production (check archives of this thread), they are paid nothing.

I kind of doubt they would feature drug stores only because they don't carry enough stock to get the type of ridiculous pre-coupon total they are looking for. I guess maybe if they pre-ordered.

I wonder if they would show them doing hundreds of back to back transactions or edit it to look like it was one big transaction.

They contacted me and you are not paid to be on the show. Of course I declined since I do not agree with the amount of fraud they promote on that show and I figure why should I let someone else make money off of me....lol

Hm.. should be interesting to see how they handle it and portray it.

Sucks, because I already have to go to Walgreens at midnight to get the deals. I've been doing CVS way more since they have limits and give rainchecks on ECBs.

Yeah, I haven't stepped foot in wags for about 6 weeks. If a deal requires OOP they usually have it in stock. If it's a freebie or a MM it'll be gone by Sunday PM. CVS at least offers RC's.

I'm so glad CVS just opened in my town. The whole shopping experience is so much more pleasant. Not having to worry about fillers, and making sure using an RR won't cancel out a new RR printing. Plus all the extra opportunities for ECBs (Green Bag, Beauty Club, etc).

It seems like more couponers go to Walgreens than CVS so far, maybe b/c CVS is so new here. Or, CVS has less stock issues because of limits so it just appears that way.

Hey, maybe EC will send more people to Walgreens and leave my CVS stuff alone, lol.

Also did WM really "slap" her hand or was it more of a gentle push after she refused to stop and threaten to blackmail? Sounds like she is playing the victim with her one-sided story because she furious her daily 'extreme couponing' privilege came to an end.

She was contacted by Extreme Couponing producers before the show began.

''We didn't fit and could not conform to what that show is now,'' she said. ''I think it could have been educational, but I think it's become more of another glorified, 'OK', version of hoarding. And it's not a true definition of couponing. It's not for the everyday person and it has changed a lot of the store policies since it has aired. We've seen a lot of stores' coupon policies revamped almost completely.''....

Worth stealing

The couponing craze has been both a boon and a problem for the Beacon Journal.

Sunday sales are up at convenience and other stores and Jim DeLuca, vice president for circulation, says most of that is because of interest in the two or three coupon booklets in the papers most weeks.

But he said the coupon suppliers deliver a set number of booklets based on circulation audits from 2010. There aren't enough to fill additional papers, so those shipped outside the primary circulation area are most likely not to contain the booklets.

That generates complaints.

''It's hard to communicate this to people because you don't know where you are going to be short,'' he said.

He is suggesting retailers put up a sign when they discover the papers don't have the coupons.

He also said coupons are not in the paper on holiday weekends, so they will be absent from the July 3 edition.

DeLuca also said theft is up. He said all of the coupon booklets have been taken from some coin-operated vending boxes. The news sections remained.......
