Advice On Giving an Offer For A Used Car
hi everyone!
I'm going to a dealer to try to purchase a used car soon.
I am interested in buying a car.
There are a couple in my area for the car type that I am looking for. They are all the same model. The prices listed are the "internet prices":
1. 2010. About 17k miles on it. Asking $13,500. Checking the Car Fax, this dealership has had this car since late last year.
2. 2009. About 7k miles on it. Asking $12,900. This deal has had this car for at least 6 months.
There is one other dealer that has these cars a bit further from me (About a hour away):
3. 2009. About 32k miles on it. Asking $10,900.
4. 2009. About 22k miles on it. Asking $11,900.
5. 2009. About 22k miles on it. Asking $12,900.
All of these have been with the dealer for many months as well.
All of these car's CarFaxs check out nicely and while I haven't checked them indepth yet, I am assuming these are all in good condition.
I have already seen the first two cars and I want to try to get car #1 as my goal. I want to get it for a great price.
My question and advice I am looking for, is what would be a good starting offer to give to the dealership?
This model is not selling and the dealers have had these cars just sitting around for a long time so I am thinking about offering really low for car number 1. I was thinking to offer $10,500 with the justification that it has been sitting there for a long time and that it beats the price of the third car that is comparable. Hopefully I can close the deal somewhere in the low 11k range (maybe)
Do you think that this is too much of a lowball offer? Would you offer something different? Would you start even lower?
Any advice would be helpful!
Thank you!
